Can't wait for this one. Mega Evolutions are a fantastic idea, and if you get the game around launch time, you can potentially have a grass, fire and water type from three different generations (pick one from the new starters, you get an original starter from Red/Blue during the game, and a special Torchic can be downloaded in the early days).
As a non-thinking grass type chooser, I'm conflicted between getting Chespin and picking Squirtle, or picking Froakie (who looks awesome) and getting the best grass type ever, Bulbasaur. SO MANY CHOICES

Actually...
It's not OP at all. It's a terrible typing combo.
It's just that Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard are all badasses.

While Charizard is my favourite fire type, my order goes Bulbasaur > Squirtle > Charmander. Since I'm getting a Torchic, the other two have to come first.
Besides, one of the new X/Y pokemon is a fire/flying type.

WHY MUST THEY KEEP MAKING FIRE/FLYING
It's like they want to continue to make stealth rock overpowered.

I might have to get it T_T I used to be unthinking fire, but I'd probably go grass because ARMADILLO. I also got sceptile whenever that was because lizards aw yiss. Then I can get Charmander, despite fire/flying being a terrible type (srsly, do you guys EVEN metagame??)
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!

I wish Charizard was Fire/Dragon
That is the only typing worthy of how badass he is.

I tried to remain excited about Pokemon after red/blue/yellow, but everything since has felt like a cheesy rehash with tons of knockoff add-on pokemon.
Legit, tons of the new pokemon are basically old ones but drawn different. It's depressing. That, and having 569,000,000,000 pokemon just seems overwhelming to the absurd. I preferred the original 151; quality over quantity.
I don't think pokemon will ever capture my attention again. And that makes me sad, because it was a huge part of my childhood.

Some of the 152+ pokemon are lame, yes, but so were some of the first 151 to be honest, and there's always going to be some of something that fall a bit flat. There's some really awesome ones in the more recent games, too!
But overall I've enjoyed every pokemon game (except maybe gen 3) because even if they all follow the same major formula, they've been adding more mechanics and depth and refining older ones with every new generation and I really respect and enjoy that.
The new one looks set to bring in some of their most adventurous changes yet, so I am pretty excited for it.

Yeah the only gen I really disliked and would not play again unless forced would be gen 3. The rest have all been good in their own way, although I'll always prefer the first games.

I think the one I've had the most fun with was HeartGold.
Gen 2 story, so you got double the gyms, lots of the more recent pokemon added in, the new mechanics and interface and the epic battle with Red at the very end.
I have exceptionally fond memories of trying to bet Red when about 18 levels lower than his lowest level pokemon, all the guys from church who play pokemon gathered around giving suggestions or making jokes, and in the end I managed it because of how amazing my steelix was.
Feels good man.
Fire/Flying is a terrible combo? You crazy, bro. You crazy. Just being immune to ground type moves gives you a huge advantage over other fire types.

Yeah but other fire types don't have a quadruple weakness to rock. Nor a weakness to electricity. I love him, he's my favourite Pokemon, but he is not a good pick in the metagame.
Also, above, I meant Snivy/SERPERIOR who is clearly the best starter since cyndaquil. Though I did get Sceptile as well. Never had a water type starter.

Rock is a rarely used move, to be honest, so I don't mind it. The other fire starters get matches with fighting, however, and have a weakness to Psychic... which EVERYBODY uses. I'd rather be weak to Geodude than Mewtwo.

Fewer types can use psychic, and they're mostly obvious, whereas most types can pick up rock moves and it's hard to guess which Pokemon might have it in its moveset. You should know, I used to be pro, Ganon ... before I quit the game for good *tucks cap over eyes*.

Also, best starter is this bad boy. http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/T...%C3%A9mon)
They CAN pick them up. They rarely do. And, typically, the Rock Types who'll make the greatest use of these moves usually have high def and hp, and lower attack and speed stats. I mean, hell... you really worried about it? Give your Charizard Steel Claw and just rape the rock type before he can move. If another type uses the rock move, you should be able to survive at least one or two hits before going down.
