Prototype 2: Alternate EVERYTHING
#1
Alright, so anyone here like Prototype 2? Me too! Gosh these fight mechanics are so smooth and... HEY! Mercer's back! C'mere buddy, lets... wait... what? Evil? NO! Not evil! Why!

*Reads into the lore.*

That's... that's ... so fucking lame... One girl? It took one girl to sway your vote? Common dude, I know heartbreak hurts but jeeze...

SO... I want to do a fanfiction to show how I think it should have gone! I think I'll do it in the Astral Verse and have Mercer slowly remember it. Time between taking a damn nuke to the brain and his arrival in the Omniverse having sort of "Reset the ol' ticker" much like the precurser to Prototype (the original) did.

Don't get me wrong, Mercer is not going to be some Supercancer (superman but with cancer powers,) he'll still be somewhat the anti-hero he was for Prototype (where he saved Manhattan then left it to heal after Elizabeth Green (the bitch that actively spread the virus, while Mercer more killed infected and ate them.)

This time though, I'm thinking about painting him as the Anti-Villain who seeks to bring Humans up to the next stage, with the goal of turning everyone into "Evolved," perhaps sans the weaponry... or maybe very moderate versions...

I plan for him to go back to studying the original Blacklight, reconnect to the old Alex Mercer's work and figure out what made him, what this retrovirus' true potential was and, by extension, what he could do to improve the new wave of dominant species on the planet.

He will use morally gray means to infect people "for their benefit." One such person uncovers Mercer's intent and being part of the original Manhattan massacre blames him for all the carnage and seeks to end him. Sound familiar? This is how it could have been... Instead of trying to end the world, Mercer HAS THE POWER to make it better...

What's even more delicious is Mercer gives up consuming humans and has even learned to seperate minds and "regurgitate" them by sacrificing biomass. So he's effectively given up his own power, while this Anti-Hero James Heller is consuming and growing more powerful...

It shifts balance from Heller vs Mercer, Good vs. Evil, to a balance of perspective. Mercer is a good guy doing things in a shady way - and Heller is also a good guy doing things in a shady way. Heller sees Mercer as trying to end the current way of life, and Mercer sees Heller as, essentially, himself not too long ago...

Can you TASTE This juicy plot or what? Am I just too excited about the Anti-Hero Vs. Anti-Villain, or does this actually sound like how P2 should have been? I'd love to hear your thoughts or maybe get a few ideas!

Booiiiiii I love it. Though, you just reminded me of my own AU of the second game. "Seeing Double" is what it's called.

I have a LOT of ideas for this... but I don't know if I could incorperate them into play in Omniverse, unless I can have Mercer slowly recover the memories over time... Basically use the nuke from P1 as a plot device to remove years of memory, much like the initial virus did in the beginning of the game. The transition between Omniverse and the Nuke being two major events that capped the beginning and the end of an entire saga.

It might give Mercer a reason to seek out an audience with Omni too... To give him all of his memories, or to ask him why he is here, if he is meant to be the Prototype from before - what he remembers vividly - or the progenitor of an entire species, the aspect which he forgot.

The story will have Mercer essentially bring about the apocalypse, there's no way to sugar coat it... bringing the human race to an extinction but in its place creating an entirely new species of Evolved. It will involve the collapse of modern government and a return to a more basic time...

Those who do not want to become one of the Evolved... don't have to... but those who slaughter Mercer's kin will be slaughtered themselves - for the greater good. Good intent, evil ways. XD Perfect anti-villain.

Oooooh I like this. I like where this is going. Can't wait for the moment my guys get the news and start freaking out.

Alex is bound to get a bounty, though. Be weary of that. If it happens.

I mean, depending on how the evolved look your kin might have a problem with my third xD

Yuuka KazamiBig Grines is like that one meme like... "How many levels of Omniverse are you on?"

Revan Noctis : Desman what are you currently doing in the omniverse?
Desman Black: I'm faking an engagement to a sex deamon to stop two samurai I accidently summoned whipping them in half, while also trying to stop them from doing the same thing to my best freind who is currently having relations with said deamon, and wh has now accidently summoned his previous girlfreind. So you know... normal stuff

I imagine the Evolved will have a whole bunch of problems... actually managing to create an apocalypse would likely require Ascendancy in every single verse, at minimum... that's quite the ambition.

Nononono, I don't mean to create an apocalypse HERE. I'm talking about writing an AU sequel to Prototype to fix what Prototype 2 royally screwed up. To put it in perspective, the main reason Mercer turned from "Save Manhattan, leave to let it heal" to "Eradicate all humans" is explained in bulk as "seeing the downfalls of humans" and then more detail revolves around one chick breaking his heart... I mean seriously... he's ending the world... because of a bad hookup.

He goes back to infecting people with the same virus, which usually just kills people. There's zero explination as to how he can create the perfectly stable "Evolved" and its used sparingly as a plot device... He had the means to SAVE humanity, but because that story wouldn't make a great game, he instead decided to ruin it... It just turns Mercer into the Big Bad so you had the perfect final boss. Perfect... if you weren't a Lore Junky like me.

My intention is, if I decide to even put it on Omniverse, that eventually Mercer will remember bits. Thoughts and memories between the time of "Nuke to the Face" and "Omni in his face" slowly trickle back to help sort of "guide" Mercer back into the role of Anti (Anti villain or Anti Hero depends on perspective, of course.) It really depends on if this is considered "Ret-Con" which is... so damn arguable... Mercer's original death (shot down as he smashed the vial) lead to a complete amnesia. It could be said that Omni plucked the Prototype at the moment of his death, so that he remembers only the "Climax" that began his new life; consuming the crow that was attempting to consume him.

I'm compiling information and references, and adding a few details that were never important enough in the original or sequel to become established lore. I'm going to try and do this as close to the books as possible. Mercer won't be Mr. Perfect by any means, he's not going to turn into an upstanding guy. He's going to be more like a Necessary Evil.
