Taenia Memoriae

Mami laid with her weight evenly distributed across each of the three benches on her dinghy, which were now wrapped in blankets and pillows made from ribbons. The boat was now fortified at its edges with those same ribbons. But despite her comfort, Mami did not sleep - Her eyes were open, trained on the sky. She still felt pain in her burns, but the pain was beginning to subside through ignorance. She would need to find some way to mend them soon, or at least some way to bandage them. No immediate means of doing so came to mind, unfortunately, so it seemed she would simply need to stick things out as hard as she could until she found some kind of doctor... Since it certainly seemed she didn't need to keep her abilities as a Magical Girl, nor the fight that she just took part in, a secret.

She had been drifting for long, longer than she had bothered to remember - All she knew was that the time she had spent stuck in the wooden cradle she called her boat was too much time indeed. Where was she going? Where had she gone? It seemed almost as if she had been drifting through nothing for so long that she would never reach land again.

Just then, she felt a sudden crash against the front of the boat. She bolted up into a sitting position, ignoring the pain she felt in her head from impact, and tossed everything inside the boat up onto the land she had crashed against. In about five seconds she swiftly tossed a dozen and a half pillows and eight blankets onto a little stone ledge, then she jumped up from her boat and onto the ledge, which was about eight meters from sea level. She would need to ensure her boat didn't drift away on her, so she looked for something she could use as a short-term anchor for pulling the thing to shore. She looked to the island she now was standing on, where she saw she was in a small clearing - Dense forest made up the majority of the island from what she could see.

She was fortunate in that sense, as she had a number of potential anchors. She extended her left arm out, sent a ribbon from her left sleeve, and then sent another from her right sleeve at the boat below her. Both connected with their targets and wrapped around them - Mami began to pull the boat up from the water by walking towards the tree - The boat offered great resistance, and it didn't help much that Mami was not much when it came to feats of physical strength. She began to pant, and a bit of sweat mixed with ocean spray covered her brow as she looked back to see part of the boat's edge on the cliff she had been standing on about half a minute ago. With energy and hope renewed, she continued on stronger until she felt no more need to pull; At that, she let her ribbons return to her sleeves, where she dispelled them and returned to her position near her boat.

The clearing she found herself in now was far from impressive. It was small, almost cramped in size, but she hoped it would be nice enough to call home for a short time. With a smile she returned to her makeshift camp, a boat that could be described as an underdog at best and a pile of cushions and thick blankets. Mami had no idea what she could do with this that would give her some form of temporary shelter, at least one that would remain stable. She could try making something with Omnilium, but she got the impression that making something big and important like a shelter would take lots of the stuff, unlike her school uniform.

"I guess I could always just rest here for a while," Mami concluded. She picked up a blanket, laid it out flat on the stone near the cliff (But of course far enough from the edge so she wouldn't fall), covered its edges with pillows and laid a blanket out on top. She slipped underneath the top blanket, got comfortable, and with a smile she let herself drift off to sleep.

Mami awoke to the vibration of the strange phone-like device coloured gold against her right thigh, causing great pain on her recovering burn wound in that spot. She flinched and squirmed under her blankets, searching for the source of the incessant and painful shaking and humming - She found the source, lifted it to the sky and laid on her back instead of her side as she had while searching. On the screen of the device were the words 'Mobile Dataverse Device' - She did not recall learning the name of the machine, but knowing it would perhaps be convenient. There had to have been a reason for it to call upon her, as it would not be vibrating otherwise. The trio of words previously listed on the screen disappeared, and Mami saw new words replace them: '@Mami Tomoe - Mentioned in Dante's Abyss Power Rankings'. At least half of the words mentioned were news to her, so without a moment's hesitation she tapped the words and was brought to a new page. She scrolled through walls of text and, interestingly, found a picture of her face, her name hovered above it, and a wall of text. Her eyes landed on an interesting line...

Quote:If the Mami that took Harry to the edge is the one that enters DA, y’all better recognize.

Mami was confused but also impressed. She was ranked twenty on some kind of list, though she knew not what the list was about. Something to do with power. If she was strong enough to be considered twentieth-best in the Omniverse, she definitely had something to be proud of. But something was the matter - She hadn't seen anyone else in the area while she and Harry were battling. How did people already know about their fight? And if people had known, why hadn't anyone helped her in the tough times since? Then again, neither had anyone helped Harry, to her knowledge, though they had yet to stand face to face for a short while.

Regardless, this list may have given Mami a purpose. She looked back at her screen and, as quickly as it had arrived, it was gone. On her screen, something along the lines of //:SYSTEM ERROR 32x// flashed bright red. Perhaps she had simply been daydreaming moments ago? Mami put down the device beside her, rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and, with a quick snap, all the pillows and blankets vanished. "That should keep me awake," she thought aloud and picked up her Dataverse Device again whilst rising to her feet. She flipped her boat right side-up and pushed it down into the water - With a satisfyingly loud SPLASH, she watched it land in the water. She hopped down into it again, took the rows out and dipped their ends into the water, leaving her Dataverse Device on the front bench of the boat. Wherever the person who made the list was, Mami was going to find them. She began rowing her little rowboat along in the now-foggy waters of the Deep.

In not too much time, Mami had found herself at the gate to the Nexus yet again. She beached her little boat there in the sand, gently placed its rows inside the boat from the water, and she stepped out into the coarse and shell-filled sand. Something seemed depressing about leaving the little boat behind in its current state - She almost felt attached to it, strangely enough. And so she tapped its bow with her finger and gave it a bow of her own, a lovely one made of one of her ribbons.

Mami then spun on her heel and walked through the gate to the Nexus.
