Quick question--are characters allowed that have knowledge of other characters?
For example, a person from the Ready Player One 'verse may have knowledge of other characters as they were in their world as pop culture. That may not mean they how that person is or is supposed to be now, but I just wanted to check.
Also, if my character is from the VR gaming world, can his/her name be a user name? Like...A Rusty Bed Pan, for example? >.>
Thanks!

Hey there, and Welcome to the Omniverse!
knowledge of other characters is always something of a gray area. For example, strictly speaking its okay to have a character that knows someone like Goku or Darth Vader exists, prior to the omniverse. What isn't allowed is knowing how those characters work in a way that gives you an advantage, (such as knowing that Goku has super Saiyan, or that Darth Vader can use the force to choke people invisibly) before your character has a chance to see such a thing, because that would be knowledge that gives you an unfair advantage if you ran into them. (or maybe a better example, it's fine to know batman exists, but knowing he has a rule against killing people would be an unfair advantage if you were debating whether to try robbing gotham)
As you can see, this can get very difficult to define very fast, so that's why we tend to discourage characters of that vein, but strictly speaking they aren't banned. It really comes down to the extent of the knowledge, and how much impact the character's knowledge has on how they interact with the OV. You couldn't use your recognition of these "fictional" characters to realize that you're in an RPG, but it could certainly tip your character off that wherever you are is somewhere WIERD.
As for the second question, I guess so? it's certainly possible to use a title instead of a name, (I'm a case in point here) though I would caution that it can be confusing for other people, would your character still call themselves A Rusty Bed Pan in the OV? So basically there's no hard rule against it, but you'll want to carefully consider whether it's going to be annoying in the future or not.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask!
If history is to become legend, it first must be recorded.
Thanks for the reply! I am...ahem...humbled by your sage wisdom :awesome:
That does make the concept I was thinking about a bit more difficult. Thankfully I wasn't too far into the character creation process. Perhaps I'll attempt to push the limits on my second character? :v:
Appreciate the help!
