Am I the only one who keeps watching those series, reading those books or what have you BECAUSE they hate the character, to see how bad the trainwreck goes or hoping for a miraculous turn-around with a happy ending? Or am I just being really weird?

The character was fantastic, and if you had read the my response to Tearen maybe you would've caught onto that. But, it basically annihilated entire planets in its home universe. Terrorized various secondaries throughout its OV career (see Tea's threads in the Vasty Deep, it is TERRIFYING how totally creepy and disgusting and unsettling that thing's treatment of secondaries was.) Experimented on secondaries.
That, in my opinion, makes him a good villain. If you don't hate a character for killing, tormenting and experimenting on other people with zero remorse or human emotion, that's on you. I personally found this character to be horrifying, the antithesis of humanity, and thus I hated it.
No, no, I got what you meant. It's just that I don't hate characters for doing that sorta thing.

I get what Reece is saying. I love the Joker and that piece of shit rapes women.(Among other heinous acts) If the Joker was a real person, I would surely hate him, but as a fictional character, I love him. I think that's all that he means, its not something that's 'on you', as if to say you are a bad person if you don't hate villains. Some people can just easily separate the two from fiction and reality, so instead of hating an immoral fictional character, you root for them, even though you'd call for the death penalty on a real person of the same traits/actions in reality.

Aye, what Sasuke said...
I'm glad I'm not the only one here who feels that way. I wouldn't want everyone thinking I'm some kinda psycho... or, even worse, an edgelord. :zany:

There's appreciating a good character, dude, but you can still hate a character that's fictional. I'm still able to separate fiction and reality, thank you very much, but I'll still hate a character for doing reprehensible things as a reader. That's what makes that kind of character enjoyable. Don't get why this is such a big semantics issue for y'all.
Anyway, this entire discussion is deviating from the topic. Like, heck, just tell me about a fictional character's actions that made you uncomfortable, it doesn't have to be straight up hatred. Gosh.

Valentine from the Mortal Instruments series of books. I really didn't like him as a character. He was a good villain in the series, but I was really happy when he got his just desserts in like...book 3 or 4? Finally put an end to that annoying plot line so Clary and Jace could focus on other things.

I really love to hate Gilgamesh. He stands for everything I'm not. That's why I love writing as him, I try and deviate from myself as far as possible when I write him. Not even because the dude is egotistical and stuff.
The guy had a wish to cause a mass genocide for the world because he thought it was tainted and wanted the "survival of the fittest" type deal.
Spoiler for fate series below
He also convinced a character to stab his teacher for funsies. Like he literally got bored of a human being and said "Hey you know what would be fun, kill the guy who's raised you your entire life."
Aside Kotomine is a character who i genuinely despise. He is the one who killed his teacher and he literally gets off on people getting tortured. ALSO HE GAVE THE KNIFE HE STABBED THE TEACHER WITH TO THE TEACHER'S DAUGHTER. SHE NEVER FOUND OUT ABOUT IT! Oh by the way, this dude is a priest! So a sadistic priest plus a Megalomanic, genocidal douchebag doesn't equal a good combo.
Aside from the fate series I hate Yuno from the Future Diary series. She just gives me the shivers whenever her character gets screen time.

Envy from full metal alchemist brotherhood, and Shao Tucker from the same , becsuse they are some of the only characters who’s actions at times made me feel uncomfortable.
