The last character you really hated
#1
Which character was the last one that you really hated?

Now, I don't mean like you hated the character because they were a mary sue, didn't serve much of a purpose in the plot, or something silly like that. Which character did you HATE, one that did something so freaking evil, so horrible, that you realized you could never, ever forgive them and wouldn't accept whatever redemption arc the writer put out?

It can be an Omniverse character. Personally, the last character that made me super upset was Gildarts' Crossroads demon OC. It's an excellent character, superbly written, but my gosh did I not like what that darn demon did!

I also watched Doctor Strange on Saturday night, and if you've watched that movie to the end credits, you'll know what I mean when I say that that one dude (no spoils for u) is freaking terrible for going all villain-y.

Unfortunately I can't provide names because I don't remember, but some characters in Elfen Lied...
I never got to watch past Episode 1 or 2, it ended on that mercenary who punched a woman bloody for getting too close to him too quietly.

But I'm pretty sure that Elfen Lied is made to make people sad and angry so I guess that doesn't really count.

Also, Muska, the dude from Castle in the Sky. The movie is one of my all-time favorites, but that guy... he's an amazing character as in a plot element, but damn I want to strangle him when I see him.

In the Omniverse, I don't really have any characters that particularly stand out as hateable. But then again I've yet to really read into the Underverse threads :frog:

No characters that particularly stand out? I'm clearly not doing my job.

*makes a note to pump up Ghidorah's hateability quotient.*

As for the characters I despise

Griffith, from Berserk. He's a genius achievement as a character - his charisma actually seems to radiate off the page at times - but even in a manga filled with the most loathsome monsters he stands out. When his comeuppance arrives, however many more decades that takes, I will legitimately throw a party, with chicks and booze and guns and firetrucks. If you've watched the anime, you know why, and if you've read the manga, you ESPECIALLY know why.

The only other character I can think of right now that I would slap someone across the mouth for sympathizing with them is Delores Umbridge from Harry Potter.

Most recently ( and in actually keeping with the theme of the thread) Lady Une from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing makes me angry whenever she shows her face. I started watching it a couple days ago (yes, there was a gaping hole in my nerd credentials), so although the show is twenty-three years old it still counts.

I learned a deep hatred for Immortan Joe when I was doing research for my UV thread.

In the movie there is a potential moment to empathize with him after
His unborn son is killed and he's singing a sorrowful dirge about it
but you don't get points for the capacity to experience basic human emotions. Immortan represents everything that is toxic, domineering and greedy about extreme masculinity, and it's people like him that caused the apocalypse in the first place.

As for the OV, I deeply hated Nealaphh. It represented all of my most alien, dark, sociopathic thought patterns made manifest. It was very cathartic when it regained its humanity and became Tearen Wover.
And, we dream of home I dream of life out of here Their dreams are small My dreams don't know fear I got my heart full of hope I will change everything No matter what I'm told How impossible it seems We did it before And we'll do it again We're indestructible Even when we're tired And we've been here before Just you and I
Don't try to rescue me I don't need to be rescued

Weirdly enough, I also had some genuine hate for Nealaphh. Not you Tea, 'cause you're awesome, but Nealaphh freaked me out and just... the calmness about killing a bunch of people and just how you potrayed that thought process you mentioned... Yikes.

Shinji from Evangelion.
Shinji from Typemoon franchise.
Orihime in Bleach.
Naruto.
Sakura.
Lee.
Actually just make it every fricking character in that series with the exception of maybe Jiraya, Sasuke, Kakashi 'n Itachi. Oh and Haku was nice.

Throw in entice one piece.
Lucy from Fairy Tail.
Everything from DBZ. Oh fuck I hate DBZ so much.

Postman Pat.
Bob the Builder.
Chromie.
Every loli in existence except Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade & Shalltear Bloodfallen.
Every gnome in existence.
Thrall.
Garrosh.
Actually just make that all orcs ever.

Every nopon ever in Xenoblade franchise. I'm not really feeling it.
Every lalafel ever in Final Fantasy franchise. Too bad it also hits Shantotto.
Snow. Barret. Aerith.

Hmm. I hate a lot of characters. Frankly, most characters. It'd be easier to say which ones I don't hate.

Gonna quote this to remind everyone, since I have a strange feeling several of the above posts missed it.

Though in all honesty, I'm not exactly sure. Togami comes to mind, mostly for being an ass to Fukawa, but. Really mad? Porky Mother 3 maybe...?

Yeah. That post is the reason I haven't made my own post here (other than the one which was just "Hahaha"), since I don't really hate villains for being evil. They're supposed to be evil. An evil villain is a good villain. The more psychotic the better.

That said, since a bunch of other people are ignoring it, I will too!

Glad I'm not alone in hating that guy. Blegh. How can one kid whine so much?  Confusedkeptic:

Also, Ringo Oginome from Mawaru Penguindrum is probably my most hated character. I don't care in the slightest that she stalks her teacher, but damn, she talks about curry way too often. Like, way, way too often. It cannot be physically or mentally healthy to like curry that much. All the parts of that anime that didn't involve her were great, but listening to her basically put me off eating curry for life.

If you don't hate a villain for the things they've done, they are NOT a good villain.

Interesting point, though a debatable one.
How do you account for different people hating different things? For example, I loved Nealapph, I thought he was a fantastic character... I was actually really surprised to see Aaron say he hated him (though it does explain the change to Tearen).
But based on what you said, that should mean that in my opinion, Nealapph was a bad villain, which isn't true at all.

I mean, he kinda WAS a bad villain. The most evil thing he did was murder some soldiers on arrival and create an Omni Anticult. On the flipside, he Banished Volvagia, removing a pretty evil threat from the world.

But Neal wasn't meant to be a villain, any more than Cthulhu is a villain. Villainry requires a mortal's moral code, and unknowable enigmas don't have that any more than animals do.

Lol you misread everything I said so much. Honestly, it's kind of unbelievable that anyone wouldn't hate the things Nealaphh did. The character was fantastic, and if you had read the my response to Tearen maybe you would've caught onto that. But, it basically annihilated entire planets in its home universe. Terrorized various secondaries throughout its OV career (see Tea's threads in the Vasty Deep, it is TERRIFYING how totally creepy and disgusting and unsettling that thing's treatment of secondaries was.) Experimented on secondaries.

That, in my opinion, makes him a good villain. If you don't hate a character for killing, tormenting and experimenting on other people with zero remorse or human emotion, that's on you. I personally found this character to be horrifying, the antithesis of humanity, and thus I hated it.

Doesn't matter. So long as a character violates the reader's moral code, they can be perceived as a villain. I'm just saying Nealaphh was a hell of a despicable character. Awesome and well-written, but utterly able to be despised for its actions.
