Character Switch - Nyeseth to Edward Elric
#1
Character Name: Edward Elric

Character Source: Full Metal Alchemist/ Full Metal Alchemist: Brother Hood

Character History (Taken from Brother Hood): Born to Trisha Elric and Van Hohenheim of Resembool in the winter of 1899, Edward's first few years were relatively happy; but after the sudden departure of his father during the lad's formative years, Ed was left with his mother and younger brother Alphonse as his only family. The three Elrics lived in peace in the rural village and the boys began displaying a remarkable talent for alchemy at a young age, much to the joyful astonishment of his mother. However, early in the year 1904, Trisha contracted an illness that had been spreading in the area and died, leaving her two sons orphaned. Even while mourning, mired in grief, Edward vowed to his brother that the two of them would find a way to bring their dear mother back to life with the power of alchemy.

Edward and Alphonse spent the next few years living on their own in the Elric family home, supported by their close childhood friend Winry Rockbell and her grandmother Pinako, and pursuing the alchemical knowledge necessary for their planned resurrection. Although they had gained a great deal of information and comprehension regarding the extended basics of the craft, before long it became apparent to the young prodigies that there was only so far they could go while being self-taught. In a stroke of good fortune, Resembool was visited by an exceptionally skilled alchemist named Izumi Curtis who, after some persuasion, agreed to take the Elric brothers on as her apprentices provided they pass a preliminary test. She brought the boys to Yock Island near the town of Dublith in the southern region, where she informed them that they were to survive for one full month without alchemy. If, at the end of their ordeal, they could correctly explain the concept "One is All and All is One", they would begin their training under her wing.

While there, the brothers discovered self-reliance and gained new abilities and insights relevant to living in the world under their own power from having to forage and hunt for food as well as fend off periodic attacks from Mason, an employee at the Curtises’ butcher shop who had disguised himself as a masked wild man at Izumi's behest. Coming to realize that, as a human, he is but a small part of the world and universe as a whole, but that the world and universe cannot exist without a collective of small parts, it is Edward who answered Izumi's riddle properly when she finally returned. For the next five months, the Elric brothers were subjected to Izumi's intensive alchemy and martial arts training, growing significantly in both mind and body and gaining a great deal of alchemical knowledge before returning to Resembool. Though instructed specifically by Izumi to understand that death is an irreversible part of the flow of the world and that acceptance of such is important to the "One is All, All is One" concept, the boys dove headlong into their plan to resurrect their mother upon their homecoming, having advanced their knowledge while abroad and discovered the basics to a forbidden practice called Human Transmutation.

Devising a Transmutation Circle, amassing the elemental ingredients for an adult human body and offering their own blood as soul and biological data, the boys secretly initiated the Human Transmutation in their home. Unfortunately, the Human Transmutation resulted in a Rebound; Edward and Alphonse were pulled into The Gate. Encountering the mysterious being called Truth, Edward was stripped of his left leg in exchange for crossing into God's domain and peeking at the Gate's vast wealth of alchemical knowledge. Maimed and bleeding, Edward was returned to the human dimension to find that Alphonse had not yet returned from his disappearance into the Gate, that the mother they had attempted to revive was a grotesque mass of organs only capable of sustaining life for a few moments and that his own sojourn into the Gate had granted him the curious ability to perform transmutations merely by clapping his hands together, without the aid of a Transmutation Circle - in the same style used by Izumi. Desperate to at least have his brother by his side, Edward wilfully performed another Human Transmutation to call him back, this time, sacrificing his right arm in exchange for Al's soul, which he bound alchemically to an antique suit of armor with a Blood Rune before passing out from severe blood loss. Al carried Ed to the Rockbell house, where a shocked Pinako and Winry performed emergency surgery to save the young boy's life.

For some time afterward, Edward remained in a sorrowful torpor until Lt. Colonel Roy Mustang arrived in Resembool on an inaccurate tip regarding possible State Alchemist candidates. Upon discovering the bloody remains of the brothers' failed experiment, Mustang confronted Edward at the Rockbell home and persuaded him to consider joining the State Alchemist program as a means to perhaps restore his limbs and his brother's body someday. Edward, driven by the guilt of what his ambition had done to his little brother, commissioned Pinako and Winry to craft him an automail arm and leg in order for him to follow Mustang's advice. When told that the surgery would be excruciating and that recovery would take at least three years, Ed commented that the pain would be nothing compared to Alphonse's suffering and promised to finish recovery in a single year.

In the fall of 1911, his new automail limbs complete, twelve-year-old Edward ventured with Mustang to Central City to apply for his state certification. After passing the written examination and psychological evaluation, Edward astounded all the officials present - including the Führer, King Bradley himself - with his superb and unique abilities and even managed to win the Führer's favour with his brazenness. Within a week, he was issued his license and the symbolic title of "Fullmetal Alchemist". On October 3rd, Edward returned to Resembool, packed up his belongings, burned down the Elric house (claiming that, without it, he and his brother would have no means of turning back from their goal) and left home with Alphonse to find a way to restore him to normal.

This is a short portion of the beginning of Edward’s history (The rest can be found here http://fma.wikia.com/wiki/Edward_Elric#A...n_the_East brotherhood history ends just before the ‘2003 anime series’ don’t worry about this history. Unfortunately there is a lot of history so take your time, no need to rush, I’m not in any hurry).

During the ‘Final Fight’ Edward makes it back to the gate, where he, again, meets the being known as Truth. Truth then asks him what he would be sacrificing to get his own brother’s soul and body back, and just before Edward is able to state that he will sacrifice his own Gate, and thus his own Alchemy, for his brother, he is whisked away to the Omniverse.

Physical Description:
Edward is 16 years old, and because his and his brother’s body have been linked by Truth, after their failed attempt at Human Transmutation, his growth has been stunted. He stands at 149cm (or 4’11’’). He has long, golden-blonde hair which he wears tied up in a braid that hangs down a little past his shoulders. Edward parts his bangs in the middle so that they frame his face on either side, while at the center, he leaves a single strand of hair sticking up like an antenna. Edwards’s eyes, much like his hair, are also a golden colour, which signifies his Xerxesian lineage. As a result of his attempt at Human transmutation, Edward also has two prosthetic (Automail) limbs, his left leg from just above the knee downward is automail and his automail right arm reaches all the way up to his shoulder; both are designed so that their outer shells resemble modernized plate mail. Ed wears as his trademark bright red, long-sleeved, hooded cloak whose tail comes down to his upper calves. Emblazoned in black on the back is a Flamel, signifying his tutelage under the master alchemist Izumi Curtis. It is likely that Edward fashioned this cloak for himself, as he needs to repair it often. Though Edwards's clothes vary over the course of the series, he seems particularly partial to black and will nearly always dress in black trousers and some sort of black shirt under his coat. Edward primarily wears a sleeveless black shirt with a black jacket that has silver/white lining along the edges, which can be seen under his coat. Edward also wears black leather boots and a pair of white gloves – to hide his automail arm.

- Alchemic Spear (Physical Strength) (300):
Edward claps his hands together and then places his hands on the ground in front of him, as he raises his hands from the ground, a small dent is created and from the center of it, a spear is drawn, and created, from the ground. This takes several (3) seconds to happen, and – if in battle already – can be done in only half the time, but this costs Edward more energy than he’d like to expend, so he generally tries to avoid creating this weapon while already in battle. After Edward is done with the spear he then uses Alchemy to reintegrate it back into the environment that he created it from, this costs him no extra energy. The spear’s total length is just under 6ft and is comprised of two separate materials. The long handle is made of a smooth and perfectly cylindrical concrete. The blade is fastened to the top of the handle and is made of an extremely sharp, highly durable steel. The bottom end of the spear is adorned by a small, golden fitting which is spiked at the end.

- Automail Blade (physical Strength) (300):
Edward claps his hand together and then hovers his left hand over the forearm of his right automail arm, transmuting the top – steel - plate into a 1 inch thick blade that extends roughly 25 centimetres out from his fist. This takes him only a second to achieve, which is why this is his ‘go-to’ move when it comes to fighting (Other than hand to hand combat) After he is finished with the blade, Edward only has to touch it (to simulate the clap of his hands which creates an alchemic circle within his body) and wave his hand over it again, in the opposite direction, to return his automail arm to normal.

- Stone Wall (Area Shield) (300): Edward claps his hands and slams his hands to the ground, transmuting the ground in front of him into a thirty centimetre thick, 3 meter high, 3 meter wide wall in front of him. This takes roughly five seconds for the wall to reach its max height, and the wall can be bypassed by any attacks that are fast enough to get past it before it is high enough to protect Edward. However Edward is most likely already ducking down (due to his hands being on the ground as the wall forms) behind the wall. Once the wall is destroyed it is destroyed, leaving whatever remains of the created wall in the place where it was formed.

- Stone spikes (Ranged) (300): Edward uses his alchemy to create a landslide of stone spikes that shoot up and out of the ground at a 70 degree angle in front of him. The spikes are a meter tall and 40 centimetres in diameter at the bottom, they come to a very sharp point at the top of each one. The area that they take up would be equal to roughly five of the stone spikes in a line, but they appear sporadically as they move outwards from Edward. The spikes travel towards their target at double Edwards speed and can only travel a maximum of ten metres.

- Stone Palm (Ranged Materialize and Area shield) (300): Edward creates a large stone palm that he uses to lift himself up off the ground with. The hand is represented as an upwards faced palm that is bending its fingers upwards, as if holding something up, it is also large enough that he can fit himself on the palm of the hand comfortably and have room for another person The stone palm extends upwards a little faster than Edward can run and only has a max height of 4 metres. This stone palm will remain until it is destroyed.

- Tier 1 Power up – State Alchemist Pocket watch (1000): Edward taps into the power of the philosopher stone shards placed within his state Alchemist Pocket watch, which was placed in their under the orders of the state government, boosting his alchemical power greatly.
