What requires Telepathy?
#1
Just gonna move my bullshit into a separate thread so as to not clog up the Move Creation Workshop
Original bullshittery here: http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?...#pid120589
and onwards.
And Alex's thoughts: http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?...#pid120699
Sorry to make more work for you, it's just been like 2 weeks and I still don't know what's going on ._.

Basically, where's the fine line that separates moves that require Telepathy from those that don't?
Judgments seem to vary on whether like half of the Lampad's Torch uses require it.
Notably, moves like "Uncertainty," which inspires hallucinations in sensory powers, "Folie à Deux," which inspires delusions in Telepaths, and "Delusional Meltdown," which suppresses sanity and inspires pure delusion, were all judged to not need Telepathy.
(See Lampad's Torch here: http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?...#pid102405)
(See Delusional Meltdown here: http://omniverse-rpg.com/showthread.php?...#pid118870)

On the other side of this, "Am I Seeing Things?" (which can be seen in that first link), was judged to require it. And now suddenly there's debate about whether my previous moves need it too, or what makes "Am I Seeing Things?" different from them, or what.
Again, sorry about making everything so difficult ._.

Honestly I seem to think that this is just a result of different people reviewing your moves. My rule of thumb is, anything that directly takes, creates or removes information from someone's mind requires telepathy.

Things like changing perception, inspiring rage or inducing fear could either be classified as emotional manipulation or illusions, which don't inherently need the Telepathy power. I believe the clinching phrase in "Am I Seeing Things?" is that it 'makes the target forget' that CP was there. You are directly suppressing information in someone's brain, which requires telepathy.

I'm gonna paraphrase, since what Omni said has been lost to Skype hell: "anything that forces an opponent to believe something or act in a way they wouldn't requires Telepathy".

That's essentially Greg's stance on it.

'Act in a way they wouldn't' is hella vague, tho.
By that logic hallucinogenic gas should require telepathy, since people don't generally start shooting at empty air...

Personally, I like Aaron's explanation better.

Nah. I agree. Just passing the "official" ruling along. I had a similar experience with some Moves for Usopp, in which he lies about things and those Moves required Telepatht.

+1

I usually just go with hallucination vs delusion as a good example. Toying with the senses/emotions isn't telepathy, but mindfucking them into believing untrue information on a cognitive level is telepathy.
