Omnilium "Banking"
#1
As some other sites that do RPs like this,  have "Banking Systems" I thought that one could be set up for the Omniverse. How this would work is that they deposit some of their Omnilium and it increases slowly over time. Would any of the staff members be okay with this?

That's most likely gonna be a hard "no" since it rewards not writing.

We already have that, it’s called “rest points”

Though in all seriousness, this wouldn’t fly.

Yeah. I mean, you could run an IC bank and do IC things. But you'd get no game rewards without actually writing yourself (and monthly voting if you do that).
#5
You could roleplay rest point bonus as interest in a bank. Not sure why you would considering you don’t get anything out if it... unless if you love banking enough to detail it in your roleplaying.

No, see the idea behind the banking was that you could store a chunk of your Omnilium inside, and then get interest on it while still RPing. What it would do was give a way to make even more OM.
In short, like how a regular bank worked but with Omnilium. Rest Points are good, but that was just an idea to give a bigger boost.

Thing is, if Omni wanted us to have more OM, he'd just change the rules so that we all got more OM... there's no real need for a system like that.

From the outside looking in, dude. The only person who likes this idea is you. =\

The thing is, Omnilium is not given for free, no matter how easy it seems to be acquired.

It is earned by contributing to the site in some way; be that by roleplaying at all and contributing content (posts), roleplaying regularly (rest points), working with other people and contributing to their stories and positive experiences of the site (participation bonuses), for providing great content (great and exemplary bonuses), for helping out the site in recruiting new members (voting and recruitment), and for helping others with things like critiquing and improving their content on the site (book club).

The thing you are suggesting doesn't seem to have any... upsides for the general good on it. It's just "oh hey i get more om for... doing nothing." Or not spending a chunk of your OM I guess? But that doesn't affect the site as a whole, just you. There's no substance behind it, it's just for getting more OM.

So you want to implement a new system... Where Omnilium is generated... automatically? That's a no. Yuuka explained it pretty well. It definitely won't fly if you're doing this just for yourself, and I don't think this would happen for the whole site.

That having been said, there is no reason to be rude, Ash. It's not a terrible idea, it just doesn't fit the way the site works. Let's try to keep the... aggressive comments to ourselves.

EDIT: Also, moved the topic to Discussions, since this is more of a proposal than anything else.

I apologize if my comment came off as rude. D=

So basically, Guu, who has to blow her om on running a city and keeping herself up to snuff to protect said city, will earn less than Isabelle, who’s only done personal storylines and sits on OM all the time.

Seems kind of unfair to me. Why bother work towards anything when it pays more to be a powerless schlub with a bank account? Kind of counterproductive.

No.

As far as I can see here, people with more OM can gain more from this. Essentially putting higher level players even higher. Which is stupid.

The way it stands is that this is basically a system where people with OM can make more OM easier.

If you want more OM than rest points give you, focus on improving your writing to earn bonuses for good stories, and/or write with others.

OM is earned solely by improving or helping this RP site. Be it writing with friends and building a good community, adding more development to your own characters to make the OV more lively, or doing monthly voting or refering people to make the community larger. (The only exception I can think of was the DA betting, which only had smallish prize amounts and was more like a fun one-off/rare thing)

This bank thing is just a low effort way to increase your OM gain. From an outside point of view it just looks like you want more OM yourself. Which is true for most people here. We all love collecting internet points. Rest points are an incentive to write more. Banking, even if it only gave you interest when writing, would likely not - unless there was a limited amount of "interest" that could be earned per week. And even then, it's just giving your a bonus for having more OM, or more unspent OM.

That's not even considering the load on staff to make this work, or the irl money/time behind implementing the system. It's either rewarding people for not spending as much OM, or rewarding people for simply having more OM.

So, no. I might not actually hold any authority, but I can very safely say that this will definitely be a no, regardless of if people have to write to get the interest - unless I'm missing something.

The point is, the rest points system works. Unless you can explain in detail, with good arguments, why banking would be better and worth the workload and time to add/switch to, this is 100%* going to be a no.

Basically the idea for banking was like you could "store" and thus avoid being tempted to spend some of your Omnilium inside a "Bank" and thus allow you to hold it in reserve should you need it, but earning interest at a MUCH slower rate than writing would do, as it were. In short, it was kinda like banks that we have today and how you put real money inside of them, and it accrues interest, but not at a rate that would allow you to use any of the interest any time soon. However, if you are all truly against the idea I will have this topic locked, and deleted. It was just something I thought up.
#15
It doesn't need to be deleted. Someone might ask something similar in the future, and if they do this thread will be referred to.

If you want to avoid spending OM, ask a mod nicely to lock your purchases log for a month. Or until you've earned X OM. They might oblige.

Or just learn some self control.

You won't get a cookie for it though. But you will get the reward of gaining the power or proficiency or transformation or move that you really want! And that, in my opinion, is good enough.

If you can't hold off on spending to save up for something you want with OM, can you really claim that you truly wanted it in the first place? Probably not.

Keep writing; keep adding to the world and community; stick with your character and, eventually you'll get the OM for whatever it is you really want. Being able to buy it is your reward.

Hey, it was a good try. Thanks for thinking up ideas for us to throw around.

Banks are evil.
I don’t want that to corrupt the Omniverse.
Probably would have goblins running it all in no time flat.
#18
I'm closing this thread now as I see no use in further discussion of it. If another staff member wishes to reopen it again in the future, then they will do that.

Guys, just a reminder that this was a discussion, some of the responses I saw in here were quite aggressive and we do want to avoid that.

With that said.

Thank you for the suggestion. The staff really do appreciate your willingness to put forth new Ideas and the possibility of further growth.

This is a huge amount of discussion for something that would be basically technically impossible to implement to begin with Tongue
Curious about me and the characters I play? See the 'Staff' page! See also the rosters for my characters Samus Aran or Enel if you'd like to see examples of well-formatted rosters. Hope you enjoy the Omniverse!
