Forum Post - Primes D20 System
#1
I've been thinking as of late, while we have a number of d20 games imported from other worlds, we don't really have much in terms of playing as primes. I mean, there's Prime Primadora and Idiot Prime, but those games are more jokes meant to mock. I mean, I don't mean to celebrate primes, but it might be amazing for secondaries to get to feel what it's like to practical be demi-gods for a session!

Okay, here's what I've thought up so far. If I think of other stuff I'll post it in following post. Feel free to post your own ideas for the system!

So for stats, I think we should go with this:

STR = Strength
CON = Constitution
DEX = Dexterity
CHA = Charisma

Strength would obviously designate frontal assaults. Someone like Gildarts would have a lot of that stat. Constitution is for primes that could really take a hit. Dexterity designated speed as well as the power of ranged attacks, and Cha represents how well you can manipulate people.

Also, I think certain powers need to be drawn from certain stats, like I think Healing power works better with Charisma. We've heard of healing primes having a lot of friends, I think it's the requisite CHA that give them that appeal. I also think Flight checks should be done with DEX and so on and so forth.

While we could designate a 10-point buy system around this, I think for best effect, all stats must be rolled. We've seen primes get the short end of the stick *Looking at Isabelle*

I don't think there should be classes, instead we have a long list of powers to buy from with a set ammount of OM we start out with. Powers like Flight or Stretch would all be things we buy at the start or over time as we level. Obviously, we'll get a set ammount per level.

I doubt any of our character would ever get as freaky as some primes with this method of purchasing powers, but we have to institute some balance. I mean, imagine if every prime actually had to buy their powers? A player that actually saved enough OM to power someone like Guu would have to be a closet case with no life! I doubt anyone has THAT much free time.

But I digress.

Summoning will of course be it's own dice roll. We've seen primes fail to summon stuff before, that shouldn't be different here. Haven't decided what modifiers should be assigned to this. Maybe +1 per level on a d10 roll?

And this is only scratching the surface. I still need to decide on Allignments, Verses, and Combat. Please stay tuned for that as I figure stuff out!

I've been thinking on the line of skills! Maybe at the start, you can have allotted skill dice. Then you get more skill dice each time you level. Maybe you can also buy skill dice with OM.

Here's a few I have in mind:
Talking
Sneaking
Dataverse
Searching
Hacking
Climbing
Swimming
Perform
Crafting
Survival

So let's say I choose Dataverse, which lets me research on the Dataverse and communicate. Untrained, dataverse is a 1d3 to start, and there will be a danger class assigned to each task. So let's say I choose Dataverse two times. Each time ups the size of the dice. So it was go to 1d6 and then to a 1d8. Here's the progression:

1d3 => 1d4 => 1d6 => 1d8 => 1d10 => 1d12 => 1d20

Stats add multipliers to the mix, so let's say I have a CHA of 8 with 10 being the max (still hammering out stats) and that gives me a bonus of +4. That multiplies the dice. Playing it out, this is how it looks:

Dataverse: 1d3 + Two points = 1d6 + 4 Charisma = 4d6

I would roll a 4d6 when I go to research on the Dataverse. So let's say, doxxing someone is a DC of 15, I might be able to reach that easier with my 4d6 dataverse skill.

And I would think powers should give modifiers for specific skills as well. Like say you want to climb a mountain and you happened to have Stretch powers, that in itself could be a +4 to the climb skill.

I know it's unconventional, but It was a thought on how we could do it... I mean it beats ripping off D&D per usual.

So I was thinking on this recently. I can imagine how the game would begin.

So basically, level 1 means you've just been brought into the Omniverse. Of course, no secondary knows for sure what this process is like since Primes only stick to the obviously fake "a god summoned me" narrative, but I think I know how we'll portray it in our game.

So the game will start with your summoning. A powerful prime, such as Eragorn, Palpatine, Diablo, will come to your world, invite you in to become a prime of immense power. They'll tell you you'll be a god amongst mortals. Of course you accept, either buying into it or thinking it's a dream.

Upon arriving in whatever verse the prime that invited derives from, you'll be in your group. Assumedly pulled in together.

I think the allignment system should be based on this. Instead of Chaotic/Lawful Good/Evil, it should be Mortal/Deity, Protector/Destroyer. Of course, Mortal/Deity alludes to how fixed are they on the delusion of divinity. Protector/Destroyer refers to how willing they are to protect innocent Secondaries, who are really the hostages in this situation. Of course, Neutral would be the designator for the moral gray, and Prophet would be the middle for the god dillusion.

Like Guu would be a Neutral Deity. Gildarts would be a Destroyer Mortal, Doomguy would be Protector Prophet, so on and so forth.

I was super excited to hear about this until your latest post. I am an avid member of the Church of Omni and frankly I feel pretty offended that you think that he's fake. I understand letting players have different origins (this is a fantasy game, after all) but I think it's unfair to make judgments like that for the real world.

I think the point was that to a Secondary that got summoned here by someone that wasn't Omni, the fact that EVERYONE says that a god summoned them here sounds ridiculous.

This roleplaying game is a work of fiction, and does not reflect on any real world religions. Any claims that tabletop is heresy is false. This is only a game and does not reflect my real life beliefs.

Oh, I'm glad to hear it. I suppose I misunderstood what you said earlier. My apologies if I seemed unnecessarily... shall we say zealous? That having been said, I hope you haven't written anything insulting in the first and last lines. I'm a Thyrixian, and as you know Thyrixians can't parse words if they do not have proper spacing.

Based on small minority opinion, I've decided to add Omni as an optional opening. His message to your players will be one for one what many primes have claimed is what Omni said to them! You'll even start in the boring ol' fountain! Because it makes sense for primes to start out in a boring old fountain! But anyways! It's an option now!

And for people who want something different and fun, the old route will still be part of it as an option. Go with whatever world works for you!

Nowthattheomniwhoreisoutoftheway

I've been thinking about adventures primes could play through. Maybe one involves Aragorn sending our "heroes" to go fight eleves who have occupied his lands, or Palpatine sending you on a peace mission to the Pokemon on cinnabar only to uncover a sinister plot by the PLF. So many possibilities!

Wait, this has got me thinking, how does being a prime fit so well into a role-playing game format, unless, just maybe, the Omniverse is a role-playing game. I mean, some primes claim that that they meet fictitious characters here, so is it really that far of a stretch...

Oh wait, I forgot, primes are a bunch of lying idiots.

Yuuka KazamiBig Grines is like that one meme like... "How many levels of Omniverse are you on?"

Revan Noctis : Desman what are you currently doing in the omniverse?
Desman Black: I'm faking an engagement to a sex deamon to stop two samurai I accidently summoned whipping them in half, while also trying to stop them from doing the same thing to my best freind who is currently having relations with said deamon, and wh has now accidently summoned his previous girlfreind. So you know... normal stuff

Sorry it’s been so long, I got distracted with the darkling invasion and shit. Anyways, here’s some campaign ideas I had:

- The “heroes” visit Ambrosia and discover a plot to replace her with a robot duplicate (as if she’s not a robot to begin with har har har!)

- The “heroes” go to impel down and must break out with their god powers!

- Primes uncover the conspiracy that Diablo was a Camelot lie to keep people from questioning their rule and you have to take down the one behind it all, Bonbon Sunshine!

- Space verse! (Haha, it’ll never happen but it would be a fun concept.)

- Infiltrate and obliterate the ruthless and bloody Westside gang

- Combat the institute and all its dragon killing, verse destroying madness! That’ll be insane!

- More Ashen Steppes quests. I get the feeling the Ashens will be the most popular setting in this RPG! Who doesn’t like lava?

This sounds pretty epic. Its been a while since I've played a d20 ruleset (d6 dicepool was more common where I lived at previously.)

If you want to feel what its like to be Primes, then maybe after you playtest it as a table top, you can find someone with the tec skills to build it in the Dataverse... I'm not too savy on what's exactly possible, but maybe a VR game where you gain mock powers? It is just a digital rendition of reality, after all. One line of code and you lose gravity. Two lines, and now each person can turn off their own gravity.

Just a thought. I know I've got a few friends that'd love it digital. I'd love it P&P, but I'm a little oldschool. XD

That last guy's suggestion sounds like a blast, btw... some kinda Prime-themed VRMMORPG would be EPIC!!1!
If any1 wants to make 1 just let me know, if it needs a VR Station to run I'm sure I could put something more-or-less safe together.

Also, anyone living in Coruscant? When my work eventually calms down we could meet up for a session?
