Quick Note: XCOM 2 often goes on sale on steam. If you don't have it already, get it (its most recent predecessor is also great and worth playing, it has a different campaign style so XCOM 2 isn't just a rehash). Also, nothing is this thread is directly OV related. More information will be in later posts. It's never too late to join. (unless this has been dead for a few months, but hey, I always welcome the opportunity to play XCOM)

XCOM 2 has a fun feature that allows you to customize your soldier pool. In essence, you can premake a soldiers appearance, give them a name, preferred class, etc. and they'll pop up in your squad at the start or be available to recruit/find later on.
With the new DLC coming out in about 5 weeks or so, I'm going to prepare a bunch of characters to sacrifice help me win the new game.
My brilliant, flawless, plan is you add your characters (or you, if you really want) to my soldier pool, and see how far I get. Hopefully, we'll kick the Aliens' butts (but I'll be playing on Commander Ironman, so that's unlikely). Naturally, I can't have a dragon or a little girl because the character creation is for your average human soldier (I will build a handful of humanoid robots though - see the bottom form), but I'll recreate them as well as I can. There's also mods and such which could help. Nothing major, but I should be able to find you the right hat.
To make it easy for me to import you or your dudes, it would be helpful if you fill out some of the following questions, assuming the information isn't available on your roster somewhere. It just makes it easier for me to create you correctly. Also, if your character is pretty obscure or young/short, it might be worthwhile suggesting a more adult appearance for them. Also, if you own a copy of XCOM 2, you can create the character yourself and then export it. Email me the file at ebonywoodhellscythe@gmail.com (just PM me on the site or say here that you did this, I don't check my emails on that account often). If you used any mods, tell me which ones. If they're available on the steam workshop, I'll get them.

Classes
For the most part, classes will be random. When promoted from rookie, your new class is random. However, there are options to train people to certain classes, and sometimes someone will appear as their preferred class (if any). So I can probably hold someone off to be a psionic, or choose to make them a ranger. Although if I need more specialists, you'll become a specialist.
There are four core classes in XCOM 2. Snipers, Specialists, Grenadiers, and Rangers. Most of you guys will end up being one of these. I expect I'll probably get about 5 of each in my game. Maybe more if some die, but I doubt more will actually see action.
Snipers, as the name implies, snipe things. They have a sniper rifle and snipe stuff, although they can be spec'd towards becoming more of a gunslinger with pistols (their secondary weapon).
Specialists are your hackers, being able to remotely hack robots and do other fun stuff with their little drone. Generally, these guys play a large supporting role. They can also be spec'd more towards medical skills (such as using the drone to heal from range and having increased medkit uses), which is invaluable.
Grenadiers have a grenade launcher. They also have a big gun. Generally, these guys will be either spamming grenades (for damage, or for battlefield control) or be firing with their gun. That's not to say others can't use grenades, it's just that their grenades are better. These people are basically your heavy weapons guys (and late game there's even power armour that gives you wrist rockets and stuff - although that can be equipped by anyone it generally synergises better with the grenadier class).
Rangers have a shotgun and a sword. You can either build them as scouts, or as "lets run into everything and shoot it to death". Rangers are very good at dishing out high damage, or finishing off weaker enemies.
There are, however, five more classes. Psionics and SPARK units. Reapers, Skirmishers, and Templars.
Psionics attack stuff with their mind. I don't know if the new DLC has changed them much, but prior they were generally good for both damage and support options. Usually, I don't end up with more than two in a single game, however (it takes a long time to train them). They're very survivable, and while they can use guns, most of the time they won't be.
SPARK units are robots. They're expensive to make, so I don't expect more than two or three to really appear in my campaign. Good for punching stuff, shooting stuff, and providing a good backbone for the squad.
Reapers are a new class in the DLC. They're basically super stealthy people in trench coats. They use a rifle, have very good aim, but generally aren't great for damage (although I have no idea what their ability tree is like, so they could have some good abilities at higher ranks). These guys massively outclass rangers in the stealth department from what I've heard. I don't know how many I'll get because they aren't recruited through conventional means. Also, I think the first reaper I get will actually be a story character, so I won't change them into one of you guys. I estimate only one or two of you could be these.
Skirmishers are also a new DLC class. They spam bullets and do skirmisher things. That's all I know. From a lore perspective, they are defected alien soldiers. I think the first skirmisher I get will actually be a story character, so I won't change them into one of you guys. I estimate only one or two of you could be these.
Templars are the last new class. They have a machine pistol (only good for chip damage as far as I know). Their main weapon is psionics. Although they use their psionics for melee attacks. Essentially, they're a bit like a spell-blade. I don't know anything else about them, but I reckon only two or three of you guys could be one, tops.
