Patch Notes
#81
Two new subzones have been added to the Tangled Green description - <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://omniverse-rpg.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=49&p=163#p163">viewtopic.php?f=22&t=49&p=163#p163</a><!-- l -->

Technically neither are new, but both have been added to the info thread for the sake of travelers.

In the future, I plan to make this a habit, as new/existing areas continue to be fleshed out by members and staff.

I edited the OOC rules yesserday but forgot to say so here. All the Chatbox stuff has been put in a new paragraph since people tended to miss it:

Quote:Please do not harass staff members. Some people forget that staff members are also just other members like you. We are not paid. We can't be around 24/7. Sometimes we just want to chill out and read the chatbox like everybody else, not immediately jump into updates as soon as we get home. So, as aforementioned, we politely request that you put all your update requests, staff-directed questions etcetera in the relevant forum (usually the Help Desk). The chatbox is not your personal staffer 24/7 helpline. Neither are our IM clients. If you continually ignore this, we will remove your chatbox privileges.

Additional errata to Moves Page ---> 'Writing Moves':

"When describing how long effects linger we prefer to use literal timescales rather than "lasts x posts" or "lasts x rounds" because depending on writing style and word count, a single post might last thirty seconds in IC time, or several minutes. "

In an ongoing effort to make joining the RPG and understanding the rules more easy and intuitive, the 'About' page has been redone and highlighted to make the site's first landing point a lot more straightforward. I also edited some of the joining stuff, such as the move examples in the character building ideas topic to bring them into line with the level of detail we now expect for all moves.

Added notes to "Writing Moves":

"When describing how powerful a move is, try not to use wording like "cuts through skin" or "breaks bones". This is because the actual damage an attack causes will depend not just on the power of the move, but also your opponent's DEF stat in relation to your ATK. It's best to leave this somewhat vague. "

Suppression has been changed from a three tier system into a single ability noted below:

Quote: Suppression – 1000 OM
Suppression is the ability to block the Sensory powers Insight, Enhanced Senses and Foresight. This is fully effective as long as your TEC is equal to or higher than your opponent's TEC. The moment your opponent's TEC is higher than yours, the effect of suppression grows gradually weaker. For example if your opponent's TEC is very slightly higher than yours, they may be able to slightly detect you with Enhanced Senses if they are paying attention, or glean some small hint about your powers with Insight. At double your TEC, they are completely unaffected by your Suppression.

All Primes who have the old version of suppression will be refunded shortly.

Effective immediately, I'll be resigning my position as a staff member. The main reason is just that my life isn't at a place where I can effectively juggle all my RL responsibilities, writing, AND the duties that come with a Staff job.

We now have a system that ranks players according to their Earned Omnilium accessible via the sidebar. Unfortunately I haven't figured out how to remove banned players, Omni, Karl Jak et cetera from the rankings but for now just pretend they're not there and enjoy comparing the size of your Internet genitals.

Void quests have been added for the initial six verses. One more will be coming for the Dataverse. To pre-empt the question. none others are currently planned.

To reiterate what is posted on the travel page, these quests give you a basic outline but we want to see your journey right from having to find out the actual clues of where the void gate might be. We want to see good stories; we'd rather not put a word count on it, but I know it helps to see a guideline. Any void gate quest should be an epic tale. If you intend to take one on, do it proud both IC and OOC. Or to quote the travel page:

"It's not like your character will get told the way; some older NPCs may be able to give you hints, but most will have no knowledge and even those who have made the journey themselves will be reluctant to share it out of fear that no one is ready. Try to do justice to the epic feel of the quest. You might even want to request the use of site NPCs and get staff members involved in the writing if they are free to do so."

Courtesy of Alex, the Dataverse has been 'patched' with a new 'content pack' with the new subzone File Island :effort: it includes a Void Entrance quest and NPC. This completes all of our planned Void quests. Full 'patch notes':

File Island – File Island is the centerpiece of something called ‘The Digital World.’ A region of the Dataverse inhabited by creatures known as ‘Digimon’ (or digital monsters), the Digital World is mostly wilderness filled with giant monsters and random references to out-dated computer technology (digging up the dirt may reveal pieces of motherboards or circuits).

At the epicenter of the Digital World is File Island, located in the middle of a vast sea. Many liken File Island to a miniature Omniverse, as the island contains various regions that mirror locations in the Omniverse. The southern forests and jungles of File Island are where most Digimon are ‘born’ from random amalgamations of binary code. From the Native Forest, they travel around, naturally growing stronger until they can digivolve into more powerful forms.

Anyone who arrives at File Island will find a Digimon waiting for them, regardless of an individual’s mindset, background, or experience. This Digimon will serve as their assistant in navigating the island, and over time, reflect the traits of his or her ‘Digidestined’ companion. With the help of a Digi-destined, a Digimon can digivolve quicker and reach its pinnacle of strength.

There are some fragments of civilization scattered around File Island, but File Village/City is the only central society. Under the leadership of Gatomon and Jijimon, File City serves as a safe bastion for young or peace-loving Digimon.

At the center of File Island is Mount Infinity—a terrifying place where only the most powerful Digimon and their companions dare enter. It is said that Mount Infinity is home to the most vicious Digmon but that there is also a secret exit from the Dataverse somewhere inside.

---

Gate in the Dataverse
Location: Tangled Green
Requirement: Level 3 to complete (can be started earlier)
Difficulty: Extreme (20,000-40,000 words dependent on writing quality)
Reward: Void entrance in the Green.

Rumors speak of a seventh gate to the Void, nestled within the vast Omniverse. People have scoured the Information Highway and threatened even the sanctity of the central archives, but their efforts have all been fruitless.

The tales of Mount Infinity, however, continue to pique the interest of adventurers. Those who are willing to follow this trail of breadcrumbs must physical enter the Dataverse, brave the outskirts of the Digital World, and arrive on File Island. It is there that they must locate their Digimon companion, who will be born as an egg. Once this creature has progressed through development, the ‘Digidestined’ prime must locate the entrance to Mount Infinity.

Inside the mountain, they must brave murderous Digimon, treacherous traps, and almost certain death. After braving these trials with their Digimon companion, the prime may just find the Gate into the Void.

----

NPC – Gatomon

Picture – <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100115100745/digipedija/sh/images/d/da/Gatomon.jpg">http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2010 ... atomon.jpg</a><!-- m -->

Role/Location – Gatomon is the de facto ruler of File City. While Jijimon handles the business of running the settlement, Gatomon is responsible for community development, organization, and most importantly, the defense of the city from wild Digimon and rogue Digidestined. She rarely leaves File City, and she can almost always be found walking its streets and frequenting its establishments. While Jijimon is aloof and somewhat distant, Gatomon is friendly and approachable without breaking the aura of authority that surrounds her.

Background: Gatomon was the first Digimon to arrive in File City, which was then little more than a hut where Jijimon was living. If you ask Gatomon, she swears that Jijimon has always existed and is less an individual and more a manifestation of File Island. Whether or not this is true, Gatomon developed a tight bond of trust with the strange Digimon, and the two vowed to create a safe place on File Island.

Nestled north of the Native Forest and in the shadow of Mount Infinity, File Village grew slowly over the years. Mostly on her own, Gatomon took the idea and gave it life. She spent months scouring the wilds for Digimon willing to join her and Jijimon, and over the years, the hut was surrounded by more thatched buildings. Over time, those buildings were replaced, and something that looked like little more than a tribal village was replaced by what a human observer would liken to a frontier town.

Although the pace of growth has slowed down, File City continues in its mission to bring safety to the citizens of File Island. While she tends to no longer stray from the city, Gatomon is nevertheless constantly planning new endeavors and expansions, playing the role of city defender, city planner, and city executive. Whether or not Jijimon is anything more than a ceremonial figure is unknown, but there isn’t a single individual that would second-guess Gatomon’s status as a beloved ruler of a quirky settlement in a strange little section of the Dataverse.

Few days after the fact, but...

Pepsiman has been added as a Site NPC, along with the creation of PepsiCO offices on Tier 2 of Coruscant and in Costa del Sol. Pepsiman himself is a wandering NPC, although those are his two main headquarters.

Vi has been added as a Site NPC. She'll serve the role of Costa del Sol's 'leader'/'defender'/'Resident Badass.'

Effectively immediately, Super Moves will be reduced to 3 tiers. Each tier will be unlocked at specific levels.

Level 1 - Tier 1
Level 4 - Tier 2
Level 10 - Tier 3

SP Costs for Super Moves have been changed to 1/2/3 SP.

OM Costs to purchase Super Moves have been changed to 600/800/1000 OM.

Super moves will no longer do fixed damage. However, the use of offensive and defensive super moves (to be rebranded Super Attacks and Super Defences) will remain exactly the same in that they must be used at the end of posts or at the beginning of posts, respectively. It will now be down to the player to simply role-play damage taken after a 'Super' exchange. They can role-play dodging, mitigating the damage somehow, or whatever, but they will still take roleplay damage unless they use a Super Defence. The idea is that most Super Attacks probably would kill or badly injure you if you took them full on, but in most fights people are going to at least be able to throw their hands up or dodge a direct collision.

Stats will be relevant to super moves. Super Moves are assumed to boost your stats by a set amount for the duration, so even a player with low attack, defence or speed will get a decent use out of it. 'Min-maxing' will not be encouraged but we do want to expect that a player specialising in ATK may have somewhat stronger Super Attacks than one who has 0 ATK.

Accumulated damage will now only be relevant at the end of fights.

****

In effect, we are simply removing a bit of the gaminess of Super Moves while keeping the element of interaction and the ability to counter that was there before. Most importantly, it removes the weird disparity that is a Super Move only doing a little bit of damage. Players are now free to choose themselves how a character deals with a giant beam in the face, whether it's throwing up a super shield or simply getting burned as they attempt to dive out of the way.

We'll still take into account Super Moves used and blocked when we dole out damage at the end of the fight.

---

Proto Man Note - Everyone who is in the Active Roster has had their Spent OM modified by me in their roster. Please go through and double-check your numbers to make sure they're accurate and up-to-date. You may also wish to include a note on your next purchase about your decrease in Spent OM.

Also, I can never seem to log onto the server, so Omni will let everyone know when has editted the associated pages of the Rules. Sorry, guys.

edit - any questions may be placed in the Help Desk.

Admin activation is no longer required for new accounts. Instead, new accounts activated the old way but require admin approval before they are able to use the chat box, PMs, or start new topics in the discussion forums. They are able to start new topics in the administration forums (help desk and joining) as usual, and are able to start new topics and post as usual in the IC forums. This means there should be minimal downtime between getting approval and being able to go on to role-play, at the very least.

I should have updated all the relevant pages for super moves now. I'm 100% certain that there will be things I've missed and will continue to update these, but I at least wanted to get the prices and stuff changed. If you catch any, please post them in the typos thread in the help desk.

The Timeline has been updated to include the creation of notable player factions, completion of a handful of high-profile stories, and Dante's Abyss. More details will be added over the next week as I sift through some other stories.
