Toying with Time
#21
Gripping. The chill of the flickering wind and swaying balance thrashed amply against the revved carpet; her hands fumbled and creased weakly into the thick fabric. She held on, gripping for her life as her fingers wiggled into the deep elusive wrinkles. Her palms kneaded the flimsy rug in an attempt to gain a firm foothold but ended up merely slipping off the downy surface.

The Prime duo embarked on their journey joined by a few allies. It was refreshing for once to have someone else on her side. It almost, almost made up for the fact that they were flying high above the ground and could fall at any second. SPLAT!! With a startled jolt, the fearful girl shivered as she imagined the crumpled mound her body would make if she happened to fall, meanwhile everyone else seemed to be well on their way.

Crisp air streamed through Caira’s sable hair and whipped with the crackle of coveted speed. She inhaled a steady breath like any meditative monk would and hoped to maintain at least some of her sanity but with her shaking sides, the girl only ended up sucking a puffy cloud into her lungs. With a humid cough, the Prime was disjointed enough from her own bubble of existence to cast a glance to see how the others were fairing. The little wizard who sat on her right offered her a friendly greeting and introduced himself with his hands wrapped around a strange looking crystal ball.

His feeble voice battled the coarse wind that seemed to catch in his throat, “May I ask your name? I’m Casmeas, second in command of Dalaran. Before the Omniverse I used my fortune telling skills to help find those who were lost or kidnapped. Certainly seems useful on this mission.”

It was a brief yet useful ounce of knowledge and he was a fortune teller. Maybe Casmeas would be able to tell her how to find Omni and save her a bit of reading. It was amazingly frightful how her path of searching for Omni had taken a such a drastic turn; intricate clues somehow had become carefully intertwined trails and now she was hunting yet another source of ominous power.

“Pleasure to meet you Casmeas, I’m Ca-Ayryn ehem, Ayryn the bounty hunter.” she cleared something in her throat before realizing if he was a fortune teller, her pseudonym -and lie- would be purposeless yet Casmeas seemed to look at her with earnest eyes.

“The pleasure is mine! Ah, most secondaries like myself don’t like Primes for a number of reasons but I simply can’t get enough of them. How very intriguing! So what world do you hail from fellow mage?” he responded as though they weren't tumbling thousands of feet above the air about to meet their doom.

Caira sighed in relief, he had asked her instead of using his gift, meaning her falsehood was probably safe with him. Unless, like Primes, a Secondary’s power was limited to certain things as well. Casmeas had mentioned others like him and how they didn’t seem to savor a Prime’s power that -very tangibly- loomed with control over them. Perhaps in this world they were taught to fear Primes and maybe that would explain why they hired some to take out others. Caira thought back to the twisted look of fear that had flashed on Thomas’s face that may have expounded some of the shameless discontentment the fortune teller was now explaining to her.

The glowing look in his prodding eyes beckoned the female back into a gusty, wind-blown reality, “Hm? My world was called the Core. Recently I found out in the library that I'm what they call an elemental mage, but in my home I was considered more of a huntress or warrior. I suppose you could call me an alien to my own home too but everyone in this place is from somewhere else. Regrettably, life on my planet has been eradicated with my departure, so I plan on finding Omni to set things straight with him. If he has predominant power over this realm, he may be able to do something about what I have lost. That... And a few other things.” She admitted without hesitation to her new ally. Truth was her friend and it was a relief telling it to someone who may have been able to offer her wisdom.

The wizard’s eyes darkened beneath the foggy shadow formed from his glazed spectacles, “A hunter who hunts the source of her own eternity...”

Time soared by in the exhilarating air. Thomas Morel, wizard master and captain of their flight crew, began their descent after motioning Casmeas to the lower tier of the stone city.

Infinite dips in the ebbing green landscape caught Caira’s attention in an awe-striking instant as clouds parted around the illustrious stone city and formed into a view of a new wondrous world. Brilliance erupted from its glory as she was filled with the strongest sense of triumph and the indefinite feat was left residing in the inspired corners of her mind. The splendor of stone was enough to take someone’s breath away and leave them gaping at the stately sight. All eyes hung on the spacious view, completely enraptured on how simple stone could be carved into something that would invoke such a enlivening emotion within each one of them.

Caira was sure that even the robots beside her felt at least some sense of reverence produced from the mere presence of the city. The King's dominion would prove to be no less than the true heart of Camelot.

The conglomerate docked in a rather crumby part of the burg, where a sticky grime hung in the smoggy air and the many faces that passed by them were painted with grime and distress. Caira looked around as Casmeas shook his head, “This isn’t right Thomas, there are no powerful entities in the area. As a mage you should be able to feel the strong presence of our Prime adversary in this town.”

“I am aware of this Casmeas,” the wizard released a gruff response, “However this is where they are rumored to take refuge. And while it may not be the most beautiful place in all of the Omniverse, if what the goblin says is true about his participation with the group. It is here where we will find him.”

Their group looked to the two Prime girls to make the final call. On one hand, the People’s Army was sure to be found in this dirty part of town, but on the other, who could say that their bounty was with them?

Caira spoke up first, “TBG, I have an idea.”

TBG nodded in response, as though knowing exactly what Caira was going to say because it had occurred to her too. This place was so very vast, there was only one way they would be able to find him: By following Casmeas.

The group split in two as Casmeas, Caira, and TBG remounted their carpet and were directed by the fortuneteller’s crystal ball. The other group composed of the goblin, Dalaran’s security mage, and the Bee Tribe each stuck closely together. On the indigent streets they stuck out like a sore thumb with their obscure forms, however that would soon serve as their protection against the perilous oncoming storm they would have to face if they were truly to find the People’s Army for Democracy and Change.
