We have a Chatbox, as you will have noticed. If it's buggy for you (ie messages are spilling onto the main site, the background is black) you will need to empty your browser's cache.

There's currently an issue with posts showing up as 'Not Read' even after being viewed. I've got a sneaking suspicion that this is a temporary problem; in the meantime, use the 'Mark Forums as Read' option in the top right corner of the forum. Everyone should delete their cookies for the site and refresh their cache, even if you did so when the chatbox first went up. This may be what's causing the troublemaker posts. I'll be keeping my eye on it to see if I can narrow down the cause.

The reply notification functionality has been removed from the chatbox for now, which has fixed the problem of edited posts showing up as Not Read.

Certain powers have been 'linked' so buying one counts towards the cost of the other. So far there are just two examples of this:

Super Jumping counts towards Flight (because Flight essentially encompasses Super Jumping)

Regeneration counts towards Healing (because Healing essentially encompasses Regeneration).

I may or may not do this for other powers later.

The costs for Summons have been adjusted to be in line with Transformations, as they were meant to (1000/1500/2000). I reduced the cost of Transformations before launch, so the old prices (2000/4000/8000) were an artefact I forgot to change.

Added a little bit to the Bonus Rewards rules a while back but forgot to mention it. Basically, if you want your participation awards for a completed topic, just post in the Help Desk. Soon you will be swimming in the shinies.

Added a new section to The RPing Process: 'Writing as NPCs and characters other than your own'. Because you're all lazy, I'll copy and paste it here:

Writing as NPCs and characters other than your own

Not everything you write has to come from your own character's perspective. Though it's usually easier, especially for new players, to keep to writing their own character, you don't have to stick to this rule. That said, you should always have permission from the person who owns the character before using them (all NPCs under the 'NPCs' forum are owned by the site, and thus you should ask Omni). If someone prefers to keep their character's actions to themselves, you should respect that. Roleplaying as self-made NPCs is fine. For example, if your own character is unconscious, or if you're waiting for someone else to post, you might choose to switch to the perspective of one of the other characters in your storyline (such as the antagonist, or a supporting character) to advance the plot. You can also opt to 'NPC' in someone else's storyline if you wish, standing in for important characters. The rules on this essentially come down to respecting the site, and the other members. NPCs are not there to give your character an advantage. If you have NPCs act as a 'deus ex machina' for your character in competitive situations, staff will step in to stop it. If members abuse the system, we may put restrictions on it or remove it. If you're ever unsure, as always, ask.

Changing Characters (now Changing Characters and Alternate Characters) has been updated with new rules on Alternate Characters.

"Players cannot trade items between their characters, combine OM to make purchases, or otherwise 'interact' in a gameplay sense. In competitive events and fights, you may only enter with a single character. Your characters may adventure together in personal storylines, in which case it is your choice which character account you choose to post with at any given time. Similarly they are allowed to 'fight' in the story as long as it is not a true fight in the gameplay sense of there being a judge and a winner and a loser. The enforcement of these rules comes down to the jurisdiction of the admin."

I have a day off, and that means UPDATES INCOMING! First off, a fairly big one. I'm going to be increasing the starting OM from 4000 to 4500. That means everyone gets an extra 500 OM right now! The tiers for levelling-up will NOT be increased, which means that folks will be hitting level 2 a little earlier; some people will be there already. I will be posting the new OM totals here once I'm finished updating. If anyone notices the old '4000' number not-yet-updated on any rules or stickies, please let me know, but I should have caught them all.

Basic Uses of Omnilium

Omnilium can be used to heal slowly over time. This effect is mostly passive. What it means for the most part is that your character can recover from injuries much faster than in the real world. Any injury can be reversed with omnilium, though it generally takes a day or so's uninterrupted bedrest for anything grievous or life-threatening like a lost limb. Useful items like guns can take up to an hour, or even longer, to summon (this goes for when purchasing new upgrades) whereas a plank of wood might take five minutes. So, while omnilium is useless if you don't have several minutes to spare, it's very useful when you're out of danger.

The requirement for an alternate character has been lowered from 10,000 to 8000 OM. Don't say I never thing for you did person.

The Powers/Proficiencies page has been shuffled around. Now Proficiencies are explained first, in the hopes of de-confusing new joiners a little. I've also rewritten Physical Strength to be a little clearer. I've also shuffled the ordering round on the roster template, as it kind of just makes more sense for proficiencies to come before anything else.

To make it more convenient to make quick purchases and deductions, I've added a new profile field under Character Profile that lets you add a link straight to your Purchases and Deductions log. Boom.
