If their super defence can protect other people, sure. (For example, Dane's lets him quickly teleport about to save him and/or his allies)

Alternatively, if theirs only protects themselves (say, it's a shield or something), it's doable if they're in a position to throw themselves in the way or something like that (and the attack is something that could be stopped by that).

Basically, play it by ear. If it looks like it's reasonable based on the moves involved, you can do it.
