Nestwright Skwee - for so the Penguin had named himself - weathered the semi-flustered avalanche of questions with patient stoicism born of long practice. He waddled over to the bar and hopped casually onto a stool, shockingly agile for a creature with such stubby legs, grasping the proffered glass of water with a set of short, muscular black tentacles that emerged from the underside of its flipper like boneless retractable fingers.
He waited for a moment, making sure that Pale had finished talking before he began.
"First off," Skwee said, studying the ice in his glass with an expert eye, "If you wanna get technical, we're all animals. As long as you don't call me a penguin, we'll get along fine; I'm a Primeavian: Spheniscidae-Sapiens. Your partner's not a shaved baboon - I'm not a penguin. As for my choice of libations, I'm partial to single-malt whiskey - neat. I quit smoking eight years ago - and I'm here because I was told by feckless bastards who shall remain nameless that if I wanted to quietly offload a whole buncha questionable salvage in a hurry - and not get royally screwed on the broker's fee - then I might want to come to this bar for a drink and a chat."
He dipped his beak in his water. "Around now-ish."
