A mighty roar of pure rage echoed around the Fountain of Infinity. It traveled across the white expanse of the Nexus, catching the attention of the freshly arrived space pirate and his newest acquaintance. At the source of the commotion stood a towering, skinless being, exuding unbridled fury. Lord Zedd had returned.
“Karl Jak!” the warlord called out mere seconds after his arrival.
He scanned the area. He was back in the Nexus. How had he made it here? He remembered traveling with Graowr and her newest band of freaks, and then it was all blank. The collar had beeped, several times, and then it was all a void of nothingness. That jester had killed him. Karl Jak had actually murdered him. By the schemes of the frustrating child-God he was back again, but that didn’t change the fact that Karl Jak had one upped him. He would find a way back into Syntech, and he would have his revenge.
The endless, blank expanse of the Nexus was somewhat jarring, as Zedd had become quite accustomed to the cityscape of Coruscant, and most recently the island in the Danteverse he regretted setting foot upon. It was difficult to process the empty slate he’d first arrived on, once more. Yet, here he was, once again surviving against the odds. It had happened plenty in his long life, and he feared it would happen again in his time here.
He just had to play it cool, and get back to Coruscant with as little fuss as possible.
“My, my,” a taunting, demeaning voice came from behind him. “I would think that with all that commotion you would have a power level at least somewhat noteworthy.”
Or not.
Zedd turned to see Freeza and another standing before him. He shot one glance at the apparent henchman, but then turned back to the one that was clearly sizing him up with some strange eyepiece. He seemed fresh.
“It’s been a rough couple of days, so it’s pleasing to encounter some proper insolence,” Lord Zedd addressed the alien as he raised his staff. “Now, begone!”
A sputter of weak electricity formed at the end of the staff, but faded away quickly. Zedd’s shoulders dropped before he lowered his staff. His spells weren’t working. Hopefully that wasn’t permanent.
“Of course,” the dark lord bemoaned. Every time he thought he got a grip on this inane realm, there was another curveball.
Freeza chuckled at the failed attempt on his life, a sight that was all too common. The other individual stepped back to get safe distance between him and the others while this played out. Freeza took a few steps closer to Zedd, but the freshly revived monstrosity did not budge.
“Your tenacity is appreciated, even if you cannot back it up,” Freeza acknowledged aloud. “I need to rebuild my new organization, now that I have arrived in this land of immortals. You seem like the type that could do some of my heavy lifting.”
“Oh, dear sweet child,” Zedd replied with his own laugh. “I remember when I was so naive about this Omniverse as well.”
“You’ve demonstrated thus far that you are a being used to success,” Freeza mocked the skinless warrior.
“You can check your past achievements with the welcoming crews that wander this empty expanse,” Zedd scoffed. “You’ll have to start over like the rest of us. I promise any of the Imperials loitering about would be more than enough for your untold powers.”
“Your excuses are simply delightful,” Freeza continued to find amusement in the situation.
Zedd looked around once again. He felt stiff, groggy, and weak as a result of his sudden reappearance. He’d already attempted to assault the strange being, only to find out he was in no shape to do so. Fortunately, the Imperials had a small contingent constantly present in the Nexus, so he wasn’t completely thrown to the wolves in this situation. Yet, the need to return to Coruscant was more pressing than ever, now.
Freeza laughed, possibly because he didn’t fully believe the statements thrown his way. Zedd didn’t blame him. He hadn’t either. What he needed was the that trigger happy stormtrooper, Searle, to come over and help put this being in his place. This appeared to be that pain in the ass’s day off, so Zedd would have to play it smart and tactical.
“I’m going back to Coruscant, where the real power in this realm lies,” Zedd announced, and abruptly turned around. He only made it two steps before his fellow villain stopped him with a simple, predictable sentence.
“What kind of power?”
Lord Zedd began to laugh.
