Zone X -- The Colosseum
#51
Quote:Prelude to Dane’s post.

I wake up to a glaring light.

What did I do last night?

I look around me. There are three men.

No. Oh no no no no no.  I stagger to my feet, backwards, pushing the palms of my hands against my throbbing forehead. I’d say it’s still ninety-percent injury, and only around ten-percent alcohol induced. But the bruises from yesterday’s fight with troll-man have made themselves evident, and it hurts to even roll my shoulders. Feels like I’ve got a couple cracked ribs, too, at the very least. Fuck.

Then I recognise one of the men. The blonde. “You!” I splutter. “You’re the guy I jumped yesterday.”

He spins his sword, eyes narrowed. “Yeah, I am.”

Ohh. The colosseum. Right. I remember volunteering for that. I let out a low moan.

I turn to the others. The fat cop! I burst out laughing. “Donut man! You’re still alive!”

He snarls. “Who the fuck are you?”

I ignore him. “And … suited black guy. Have we met?”

“Tearen Wover,” he enunciates clearly. “We haven’t met, precisely, but I’m aware of you, God Enel.” He seems mildly amused.

“What happened to your redhead friend?”

He jerks his head over and I follow the direction to … oh shit! There’s a fight going on over there! And is that …

“HENDY!” I yell. “HEN-DEEE!” It’s no use. He can’t hear me behind the barrier. Come to think of it, I can’t hear them either. Must be soundproof.

“Well then.” Mister Wover flexes his finger muscles. “Shall we get down to it?”

“Tch … let a man wake up first!”

I dig into my bag. There’s gotta be something here for that hangover. As I rifle through, I find two bottles. One of them’s a tiny glass thing that I vaguely remember picking up after braving the ocean. I open it up, drink it down and feel … nothing. Just a tingle. Tch.

There’s another bottle here. I read the label. Di-et … Moun-tain …. Dew. Full of sugar and electrolytes. I pull off the cap and down it in one. Instantly I feel a lot better. “It’s full of flavour,” I mutter. “But because it’s diet, it won’t ruin my figure.” What a fantastic product.

“You done?” asks blondie.

“Hang on!”

I walk over to the edge of the arena and pull down the front of my pants. Yeah, get a good look, Karl. This is what the audience want to see, right? With a groan, I let loose a full night’s worth of processed alcohol.

I pull up my pants. “Now, I’m ready to go.”

Quote:Insert Dane’s post here.

As the blonde helps me to my feet, I turn around and sock him across the jaw.

“Get fucked,” I spit.

He raises his sword to retaliate and-

Mantra.

An axe blade cuts down the length of my back.

I zip sideways, trailing electricity in my wake. That was close.

It’s the Executive, and he’s holding a fuckoff halberd.  I grin. Well, two can play at that game. Summoning a surge of lightning into my bō staff, I force the metal to split and flow into three prongs. A trident. As he comes again, I raise it up.

He sees this, stops, and flies backwards.

First off – he’s flying? You can do that here?

Second thing – what the fuck? Don’t back away from me, son.

I unleash lightning. Eat shit, suit. He’s quick enough to dodge, but the other two get shocked. As he flies up into the sky, he points his finger towards me – a glowing white point at the tip.

Mantra.

A white beam pierces the sky.

I burst upwards as it crashes into the ground I’d been just standing on. As guessed, my flight is back in action. I let loose two bolts in his direction; he weaves left, then right. If I didn’t know better, I’d say he was a mantra-user too. I can’t put my finger on the energy type he’s using, though. Light? Compressed air?

I ask. “What kind of Devil Fruit is that?”

His green eyes flicker. “The ‘years of training and self-discipline’ fruit.”

I raise my eyebrows. “Mantra, eh? I have that too.”

He tilts his head. “If that’s what you want to call it.”

Guess he’s from one of those far-off lands where they call it ‘haki’. Same difference. I never knew you could use mantra to fly, though. Is he full of shit, or does he really have no Devil Fruit power? Could this be achieved with the strength of mind alone?

One thing’s for sure. “It’s nice to fight someone who isn’t just a troll or … self-proclaimed ‘God’ with a spear.”
