Just saw your final post as I was getting ready to approve (so your log is up!). It would be 300 per additional element. So you get one for free, then each additional is 300. Perhaps start with just fire and ice or something, and then add the others?
I agree that having actual differences would be cooler than simply having it as fodder and not meaning anything.
