“When you stop like that… Does it impact the reading?” Jared said awkwardly, hoping not to intrude on the all powerful Cana’s fortune telling but also hoping she would continue and come back to the moment.
“Shhhhh! That’s Gildarts up there on the screen! That’s my-” Cana cut herself off, “I’ve been in his guild my entire life.”
“Gildarts?” Jared looked up at the screen, his black orc eyes sparking with vague recognition.
“Yeah, I’ve looked up to him for so long,” Cana said as a smile formed, the cards had been laid out on the table in the classic stretch, turned upside down, waiting for his fate to be revealed. Jared was under constant agony, tortured by the unknown. Cana too, in a similar sense. “Whoa, his opponent looks really intense!”
Jared looked from the screen, to Cana, to the cards between them. His eye twitched. He had asked for this, but his patience was wearing for the girl preoccupied by one of the no-name contestants in the Colosseum. Jared could have given a shit, hell, this was his not-so-thrilling job. Being a Syntech bartender -a job that was far from illustrious- had limited rewards other than money. Don’t get Jared wrong, he liked working for a famous company during a famous event, tips were great for this sort of thing, but his life felt somehow… Unfulfilled. He wanted love. He wanted the fortune teller to tell him how to find it, how to be happy, how to succeed beyond the limits of the half-orc hand he had been dealt.
“OHHHHH!!!!!” Cana shouted like a man watching an interception during the superbowl, “That’s gonna hurt in the morning,” she said, her words didn’t slur, but her cheeks had flushed with a cheerful red.
“Uh, miss…” Jared continued, but Cana’s eyes had fixed on the screen, gazing at the red haired wizard as though a child would look up in admiration to a superhero.
“Fuck, Gildarts don’t take that from him! You’re not just an old man, you’re THE old man!” Cana said as her fist thrust forward, nearly hitting Jared as she pretended she was in the fight.
Jared remained in his seat, the fortune teller sure was spirited… Cassandra smirked and came over, “She’s like this sometimes, just let her be. There’s a magic about that mage you’d never be able to see with your eyes.”
“WHOA, Gildarts when did you learn THAT move? It’s Fairy Tail Law! My guild’s LEGENDARY spell!” Cana told Cassandra and Jared over her shoulder but her eyes never left the screen, “When did he learn how to do that?”
