Illidan sneered. The human thought to teach him about arrogance. As Dust swiped at her with blackened nails, the night elf wondered how easily they would 'finish her.' He could see something inside the female sprite that no fel imbued sight could make visible. She had stood up to both of them in order to let her companion escape. Why she made such a sacrifice was for her to reconcile, but there had to be a seed of despair planted in her mind, swollen and ready to split and grow. Even still, as she faced unfair odds, she remained in the battle, unwilling to run from them.
"Your grasp of arrogance is not yet complete, human," Illidan said. "She will not be easily finished."
The fairy, battered but breathing, climbed back to her feet. Her small body had endured the scrapes and punches and displayed them proudly like badges of merit as she grinned. Despite her size, her posture was stiff and tall, her wings lilting but unbroken. Everything about her belied a tattered and mauled little girl, but her insuppressible smile contrasted it to such a sharp degree that Illidan couldn't help but appreciate her grit. Her endurance and resilient mindset irritated him, but he recognised when an opponent truly gave their all without faltering, and yet managed to maintain a positive outlook.
"Is that all you got?" the fairy said, her white teeth unwilling to hide behind bruised lips. "I haven't even started yet!"
"I admire your tenacity, fairy," Illidan said. "But if you do not realise the gravity of your situation shortly, your end will be here."
Her wings battered the air and she hovered inches from the soil. "I'm the strongest, you know. I'm not going to lose to you."
Illidan chuckled, his warglaives reflecting the cool blue of the icicles forming in the fairy's hands. "Yes, you mentioned that before," he said with a drawl.
Dust, his patience apparently eroded, leapt from behind, clawed fingers locked. The fairy spun and launched the icicles. One fell just wide of Dust's thigh, and the other scraped along his ribs, tracing a crimson line over his skin. Her wings burst her away as the human's claws sank into the soil.
"No more silly games," Illidan admonished the human. "Don't underestimate her because of her size."
The demon hunter gave chase with Dust close behind, having reacted to Illidan's words with a grunt. Tendrils of chilled smoke coiled about the fairy's hands, steaming from an expanding orb of ice.
"Not this time," Illidan said, stopping abruptly as a green ball of his own shimmered within his balled fist. Dust sprinted past, shooting a sharp glance at his ally. "Keep going! I know what I'm doing."
"If you say so," Dust said, his legs pumping without pause as the grass and soil were ripped out by each foot fall.
The fairy's conjured ice sphere shone like a aquamarine star in Illidan's magical sight, and he recognised the attack that had almost torn up his skin, if not for the human's intervention. He had wrongly fallen for the sprite's weakness ploy and had almost paid for his foolishness with his own hide. Dust had sacrificed his own safety for Illidan's, something the night elf was not accustomed to receiving from a human, and wasn't sure if he would have performed the same selfless deed if their positions had been switched.
The alliance with Dust had been hurried and not entirely of Stormrage's design, but Gildarts had proven that despite whatever mental demons that lurked within his skull, whether real or imagined, he could be trusted to cement their safety and look out for the best for both of them. The insistence of befriending so many unknown strangers still perturbed the night elf, but at least Illidan could help balance the mage's abundance of altruism. Besides, Dust, while a prisoner of youth's vigour and self-diagnosed invincibility, had not proven altogether useless.
Were humans ... perhaps, at least some of them ... not all vermin?
Illidan didn't have further time to ponder the startling question. Dust reached the fairy as she hurled her ice ball forward. The clawed human swivelled out of the magic orb's path, but the fairy had thrown the attack much shorter than either of them had anticipated. While he dodged a direct hit, Dust would still have to endure the dagger-like shavings that would explode forth from the orb like shrapnel once it touched the ground.
Stormrage launched his green sphere. It zipped over the grass and splashed over the icicle bomb. Clenching his fist, Illidan established a telekinetic connection with the fairy's attack and immediately arrested its movement.
The sprite's eyes widened as Illidan commanded her own freezing ball of death to seek its owner out.

Quote:798 words.
Cirno cast Icicle Attack twice at Dust, one missed and the other's tip scratched Dust's side.
Cirno tried to make distance. Illidan and Dust chased.
Cirno charged Icicle Bomb. Illidan recognised the swirl of the magic and prepared his own Confine.
Dust jumped to attack with A Pup's Claw, but Cirno threw Icicle Bomb, forcing him to dodge.
Illidan used Confine on the Icicle Bomb projectile before it hit the ground and redirected it back at Cirno.
