There was no use dwelling on the past. After all, none of that was caused by my actions. Our best case scenario might have been surrendering everything, but Cirno didn't want that, and I doubted she'd have given up anything. What mattered now, was where I planned to go. The city of the mountains. The mountains would probably be easier to move through unobstructed, but I could hide fairly well. And the City was the most central.
In the end, I decided to scout along the border of the death zone until I something that caught my eye, or simply made a final decision. It might have been dark, but in this particular area, the forest had been completely chopped down. Luckily for me, I was invisible so that didn't matter. I was having fun hopping from tree to tree though. It wasn't actually very tiring once I got used to it. No more so than idly travelling up a hill, at least.
I looked over my shoulder, surveying my surroundings. I was definitely alone unless there was another here like me. I hadn't met anyone else with my general set of magical abilities, but I figured that was probably the point - after all, if they were hiding just as I was, I'd never bump into them. Picking up and scrolling through my tablet, I noticed Clownpiece's fight was going along well. She was in a fair position, at least. Things could turn around, but I hoped they wouldn't. That was unlike me. Before Dante's Abyss, I hadn't hoped for anything, I'd just dealt with the outcome and got on with it. Whether a man in my command died, or the weather slowed down my travel such that I missed an event.
Maybe that was the cause of my recent problems. Instead of actually preparing for what may be to come, I'd just been hoping for a desired outcome. That needed to stop.
