Not knowing exactly who her parents are and being a Ghoul, she was forced to live and thrive on her own as a young child. Going into hiding at all times and picking off any remains of possible suicide victims.
Soon after she reached her teen years, she seems to be discovered and reached out to by a fellow ghoul which introduces her to the delicious world of coffee. This would later on let her achieve a job at Anteiku after she turned sixteen. When in public situations, she is most often seen with a cup of coffee in one hand and possibly a comic book in the other.
However, not long after she had entered the job, she was found out while she was eating down the back of an alleyway. There was no way to cover up what she was so naturally the pedestrian ran to the CCG to report Kimiko's whereabouts. As they found her, she put on chase and kept running away, knew by fighting the CCG she would just cause more trouble and hurt innocent people by accident. As she ran, she slipped and fell down a long drop, what she thought her final thoughts would be would soon to her just being knocked unconscious from the impact and waking up again to a dark void around her, and a single smiling face.
