“We’re making good time,” Graw said brightly, at this point opting to simply sit atop the center console between Cell and I. Despite her shorter stature, her head poked through where the roof would have been, her rubbery skin stretching as the wind blasted her face.
“What’re we, about half-way?” I inquired, glancing away to steal a quick look at the navigation.
No sooner had my eyes left the road than I felt the ground seem to fall away beneath the vehicle, the nose tipping and diving downward. With a muffled sploosh, the jeep came to a stop, sinking into the waterlogged earth, the swamp gobbling up the heavy steel vehicle.
“Welp, that wass fun,” Cell snarked, hopping out of his seat as the jeep sank deeper. “F-UUUck this car anyway,” he said dismissively. As I scrambled from my own seat, I thought I could hear him going off on another of his salesbug tirades, hocking some variety of whatever that I’d never heard of.
“That was fun!” Graw agreed, hopping easily out of the car and splashing into the waist-deep water. “I do wish that the car was amfibblyous though. That sounds pretty cool too.”
“Amphibiouss,” the bio-android hissed. “Anyway, it doessn’t matter. Make ssure your tabletss didn’t take a dunk.”
I pulled my own from my pocket hastily and checked out the route. Thankfully, the quick dip in the drink hadn’t harmed it and it had remained locked on the dropsite. “Alright,” I said. “Follow me. It’s this way.”
“But we know the lay of the land better, shouldn’t we lead?” Graw asked, squinting through the drizzly rain.
“Don’t bother, blueberry” Cell said, waving her off. “Vassco de Lame-a inssisstss on being our fearlesss leader. Let him have that headache for now.”
“Renowned explorer," I sneered. "So despite that pathetic pun, not an insult.”
