"Now why don't you both explain to me what the hell happened out there and why are there two men missing?”
Shang glanced over to the Spartan and promptly noticed that the wounded, winded warrior was starting to zone out. With a smirk, the sorcerer turned to their garrison commander and gestured back toward the forests on the horizon. “The woods were infested with monsters. The rest of our patrol broke ranks and fled back here, while our squad remained to deal with the threat. We traced the monsters back to three skeletal necromancers, and we were able to destroy them.”
The commander furrowed his brow as he looked to the Spartan. "Is this what happened soldier!?" Atelos only offered an almost robotic nod. Clearly the warrior’s thoughts were elsewhere, but for now, the sorcerer had other things to worry about. After a silent moment, the officer ran a hand through his hair and glanced back into the gatehouse. Shang glanced around the ‘older’ man’s shoulder to see a young man waiting for instructions. “Relay a message to the mayor that I need to have an audience with him. Now!” At the commander’s order, the young page scampered off into Darkshire. The commander turned back to his two soldiers. “Return to your barracks and be ready to accompany me to the mayor’s residence in a half hour. Dismissed.”
Without waiting for the customary exchange of military gestures, the commander turned and passed through the gatehouse. Shang and Atelos followed a few paces behind him, and once the pair of primes was through, the gate slammed shut behind them. The sorcerer turned to face the Spartan, who seemed back to his senses. “Feel sharp, Spartan, we get to go meet with the important people.”
Atelos smirked faintly as the pair rounded the street and continued toward the tower that housed their garrison. “Wonderful.”
