Zone E -- Highlands
#59
All this walking is starting to get really fucking dull. I wish we’d stayed and killed the bug now.

I shake myself off. No. I remember the anger. Why I’m here. To earn omnilium. To raise up an army, and to perfect myself further. I slap my cheeks. Gotta stay sharp. Gotta stay focused.

When I kill Omni, and turn his house into a massage parlour, it’ll all be worth it.

Can’t sleep now. Need to get to these drops.

I take my index and middle finger and place it on my left wrist. Then I jolt myself. Just enough to shake off sleep.

Vic looks over at me. “You uh … you alright there, boss?”

“Fine! Just checking my voltage levels.”

He says nothing to this. But after a few minutes of silence, he speaks up.

“If’n ya don’t mind me asking, God … what powers do you have? Noticed that thunderbolt you threw back there. Mighty impressive.”

I smirk. “Sure, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Stick around, Hendy. You’ll see some lightshows.”

Is he trying to feel me out? No, he might be hiding something, but it’s not a brain under that bald head of his. It might come in handy for him to know my powers. I sure as hell don’t want to be explaining them to him in the middle of a fight.

“In the land I come from, there is a skill. Some call it haki. Others mantra. I happen to have been born a master of this ability.”

He widens his eyes. “Really.”

I close mine. “Really. I can sense danger coming from a mile off. And I’m not even back to my full power. Yet.”

I turn to him. “What about you, Hendy? Any special powers hidden up those unassuming sleeves?”

He spreads his palms out with another of those empty-headed grins. “Pack a mean right hook, if that counts.”

I turned back to the road ahead, smiling. “Oh, it counts for something, alright. Unless you come up against someone with a gun.”

Hendy smiles again, but I can’t help but notice a twinkle beneath those eyes this time. He lifts a giant pistol from his pocket. “Nothing more reliable than solid steel.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Quite.”

We’ve left the city behind now and the road has been replaced with soft ground. Back to nature. The stillness is calming. I wince in pain once more. This illusory body is still not used to my true power. But it’s okay. The pain focuses me. Reminds me of my goal.

As we crest a hill I glance up at the sky. Are you watching now, Pretender God? Do you prepare your armies to receive me at your doorstep? You had better. This is all for you.
