Sure, but once Karl has put up the "fight" thread, you still have to make your two 800 word posts. As per normal "running away" rules.
To clarify, when you're initially challenged, you might be able to run away with one post. Once you're "in a fight" you have to stick it out to the end.
Edit:
When you are challenged, you have the option of making a 500 word "escape" post to avoid a fight altogether. However, in your case, you're thrust into a fight over an item. Due to the way all the contestants arrived in the subzone (you all came to get the item), you ALL effective challenged each other and accepted the challenge. Thus no one had the option to escape.
Via normal Fight rules, you can attempt to escape from a fight in progress. But you'll still need to meet the post and word requirements as though you were fighting normally. If you have an item to help you escape, you may still use it. But if you use it at the end of your first post, you'll still need to make your second post.
All of this is subject to Karl changing things if he feels like DA fights will work differently than regular OV fights.
