The Strongest Prime was walking with a little limp, his back was sore and he felt aged enough for a cane, his back sure felt crooked enough for one. He wasn't even quite sure where they were going, but Illidan seemed to be strolling the streets with a redeemed sense of vigor, so Gildarts let him have it, walking behind at his own pace.
The fog seemed to be dissipating and the Fairy Tail mage couldn't help but look inside the vacant windows, as though seeking for that old woman who'd offered him tea, or the giggling little girls who had likely tossed the ball. The Prime was intrigued, ghosts were a fascinating subject for anyone who had been the cause of death for someone, not to mention, a human who had lost his fair share to the unmerciful hand of fate too soon.
But are they even real, Gildarts? Those things you heard, just like your fake new arm that's since disappeared. I thought I'd give you a glimmer of hope before I ripped it away, hoping you'd realize precisely what you were missing. Why were you so eager to pair up with that... Creep anyway? He cannot compare to the team you could've made with the three-eyed one. Am I right? she sneered again, she was rather spiteful, for a voice inside his head that he couldn't get rid of. But Gildarts let his eyes fall back with a loll, he was used to this when traveling.
You don't have to agree, Malefactor, you're not even there this time. Give it a rest and let me just relax for a while, we could encounter something at any point- Gildarts spoke back to the voice in his head, which didn't happen very often, he didn't like to validate her existence to empower her to wreak more havoc on him than normal. He'd weathered her storm in the past and he'd do it once more, he had figured he'd be free for this event though.
Oh joy, well, let me tell you, I think that giant fist slamming you around was plenty "something" to shake you awake! And based on your back, you won't be relaxing anytime soon. She ended her protruding thought with a lively chuckle and vanished as quickly as she'd come. Gildarts rolled his eyes at the incessant taunts, it was like dealing with a rash of poison Morlap, it was itchy and spawned unsightly sores but eventually it went away.
They were nearing the outskirts of the city, Illidan could tell by the increased distance between buildings and the fact that some of these human's homes had driveways. The dark elf's ears twitched as he heard Gildarts' slow pace of footsteps behind him, however the man's pace was not one he could quite complain about. The mage had been hit with Illidan's powerful magic and unlike Gildarts, it had left a positively near-jubilant spring in Illidan's step. His ally couldn't have been injured that much and it was nice to clear the tension that had only receded since the pre-show. Now the human knew the devastation Illidan was capable of, it wasn't so simply left to mere speculation.
The little piece of glass in Gildarts' sack was starting to chime an announcement, "Item drop beginning! Please make your way there, and good luck to all Primes!"
It had been loud enough for Illidan's elfin ears to capture and it snatched his attention quickly onto the forward direction they were moving, reweaving his motivation forward, but first he had to check back on Gildarts. He was still in eye shot, so he was pretty close, "Gildarts Clive, come on!" Illidan would not be weighed down when his prize was so closely in sight.
