When Malon hit the first junction along the way she took a moment to look back, then accelerated her steps. She caught the glimpse of a silhouette around a corner and felt her heart beat faster again. Right now she could not trust anyone but Tearen – and even him… well, not fully.
You should read a bit about the rules of this place. The tablet had a rules section. Assassin was awfully calm for the situation that they were in. Then again, being who she was she had probably experienced that sort of situation time and time again when she was still alive. Infiltrating her target’s dwelling, avoiding guards and civilians, getting the killing blow in, planting the poison or whatever else she did, and then getting back out…
You’re giving me too much credit. If every target I pursued was a heavily guarded VIP with a hundred guards that I must bypass, then I would not have lived long. Assassin explained. There’s been more than enough situations where I gave up and ran away to live another day, or did not accept a contract because it was too difficult. Anyway, I don’t think that those guys are pursuing you, so try to read a bit while we walk. You know how to read, right?
Luckily the answer to that was yes. Malon pulled the tablet out once again and, after a moment of adjustment to remember how this thing worked, tapped the screen to open the rulebook. She hardly noticed how she traversed the streets now, only needing to look up occasionally when another junction came up. “Mega City One” was the zone she was in, apparently… the map showed her where she was, roughly speaking, and let her advance towards the area Tearen had pointed her without little trouble. But if she found him, all would be well, right? They would make it through together. She wondered though, how did Tearen plan to accomplish his goal? Would he try to win this event to stand in the spotlight for long enough to share his warning? Or had he already accomplished what he’d come for?
It was only when she noticed that the big concrete buildings were withdrawing and giving way to wild nature, how far she had walked. Tearen seemed to be within arm's reach now.
