Zone E -- Highlands
#17
Gildarts blinked and a smear of white arches of the hallway turned to an immediate black. Next, a gust of fragrant wind scrambled his fiery hair. His nose twitched, hinting at a sneeze, but he squeezed his nostrils to smother the sneeze before it was free.

Last time, Dante’s Abyss had killed him. He wouldn’t let that happen again. Plus, he hadn’t seen the other Fairy Tail mage. Where had Molly gotten her intel from anyway? “Gah, this is all so confusing,” Gildarts said to himself as his silver hand reached his forehead and stung him with a cold sting.

That was one thing that was a relief, he wasn’t that crazy, his hand was the way it should be, or at least, the way he remembered it from that fateful night. Ice cold and completely devoid of life, aside from the magical energy. The Prime recalled the rules from last year. Kill or be killed. It was probably the same this year, no one had even gotten into specifics with him. He was pretty sure this year they were collecting treasure for some reason though. What a truly wonderful day it was, the sun was high in the sky, and the land before him lay dauntingly uncharted.

To win, you have to play the game, Gildarts. Her voice echoed in the corners of the place she did not belong. Look in the bag.

Well, it wouldn’t kill him to see what he’d been left here to die with. Last time, he’d thought the black bags looked like bodybags, this time, they seemed pretty nice. Within it were a few packs of silver M.R.E.’s that Gildarts had no idea how to use, next was a silver pole that extended and retracted no bigger than a few feet, following that was a flashlight (a device he vaguely recognized), an empty water container, and something that looked like a cell phone but was not. Upon that silver reflective piece of glass was a note from Karl, signed with a heart, saying something along the lines of “figure it out” which Gildarts peeled off and tossed to the ground. Guess he’d spelt his name wrong, not that Gildarts much cared.

The middle-aged prime huffed himself to a stand and started walking. He would figure it out. He’d figure it all out. First, he was going to take a nice long walk.
