The Sage had barely recovered from the shock of the sudden teleportation, when he was struck by the immensity of the city that sprawled around him. In any other circumstance, the Sage would have pulled a journal from his satchel and begun to take notes. The architecture was evocative of Cinnibar Island, but on a scale he had not thought possible. Just who was Karl Jak, that he could afford such a structure purely as a playground for his little game?
The fog wafted through empty streets as the Sage glanced at the datapad-thingy that he had been given. He fumbled with the controls, trying to discern their function. Karl could have bothered to inform the contestants of these contraption’s importance, he would have spent some time training with the things. Finally, his bumbling fingers managed to bring up a map of the island. Several icons indicated the location of the artifacts they were here to collect. All of them were greyed out. Just like that, every artifact had been grabbed.
This would have been easier a decade ago… he thought with a sigh. He would need to be quicker than this if he was planning to get through this bloodbath alive. He needed a plan, and quickly. It would be better to avoid the city for now, this sort of location was bound to draw attention. If he had the ability to, those buildings would make the perfect location for a ranged ambush. Not something he was keen on experiencing. He glanced down at this datapad again. The Zone nearby was a forest. If this is going to be a battle of stealth, then I suppose I should fight it in familiar territory. Turning, the Sage stowed the datapad away and raced off towards the portal that would lead him to the forest.

If history is to become legend, it first must be recorded.
