The two Liberators stood still for a moment, in determination and awe. By now, the corrupted tree hardly looked like a plant anymore, the once-vintage trunks now shredded and scorched halfway. With X Buster and poleaxe at the ready, they waited for any last moments from the persistent creature. Several silent seconds came and went, with not even the tiniest hint of movement save for a few stray spiders escaping from the wreckage.
Finally, X relaxed. The battle had stretched on for a persistent amount of time, and the android lamented his relative lack of power. Bug guts and earthy grime were spattered all over his greaves, and his Buster still remained hot and smoking from the sheer amount of shots he had put out so far. Though breathing was just an auxiliary feature for the machine, he found himself doing it rather notably at the moment, as if his reserves of power were momentarily exhausted.
Time had no been so kind to the Mega Man.
"Well. I think that's everything so far," X remarked, removing his aim from the battered tree, "Unless those other people there have something to say." He turned aside, looking over the scattered Nebula soldiers with leering cameras. Some of them shrunk back slightly, in anticipation of the worst.
"I don't think they'll be a problem," the taller of the Liberators decided, lowering his stolen axe. He glanced between X and the grounded Darklings, and the robot made eye contact with the human for a brief moment. "What about yourself?"
Not having the opportunity to introduce himself during the battle, X did so now. The new Maverick Hunter snapped up straight, clapping his fist over his chestplate in salute, and announced, "Mega Man X. I'm a recent Prime, charged by Dr. Regal to liberate the area of Nebula influence." This seemed to earn a satisfactory response from the man, and the android mentally thanked himself for not having lost his sense of militia-grade respect.
The human turned to face X fully, offering his own name. "Kelly MacAryn. I appreciate the help."
The blue bomber nodded, glancing back to the Nebula agents. "What should we do with them? We can't just let them go- they're criminals, after all," X wondered aloud, welcome for suggestions. It's possible they knew the location of whatever encampment the dark organization held here, but what would it take to get that info out of them? Would a compromise or ultimatum be worth it?
"I think I have a plan," Kelly responded, eyeing a particularly nervous Darkling among the bunch.
