Shadows on the Green [Dark Data]
#8
With the sargent’s bloody execution, the remaining Darklings were more than happy to play dead, leaving Kelly and the robotic newcomer to deal with the more persistent menace.

By this point, the tree was dead on its roots. The outer bark was shattered and ripped up, and pieces of itself fell away with every shot from X’s arm cannon.

Kelly frowned. Then he gripped the axe and flew forward, neural throttle activating as he did so.

The tree made a half-hearted attempt to swipe at Kelly, but it had no true sentience and its target was too quick; the psychic hopped up on the branch and, utilising it as a springboard, leapt for the tree’s face.

The axe sunk deep into the tree’s already-wounded face, and it was enough to tip it backwards. Kelly hung on for dear life as it toppled, writhing.

“Finish it!” he cried.

Though the tree was disabled, it was still uncomfortably tenacious. It took several minutes of awkward hacking and blasting before its movements finally stopped. Even then, the duo kept their distance from the pile of dead wood before turning their attentions back to the darklings.

Though broken, the rest of the darklings were more-or-less alive. They watched Kelly and X with trepidation. Would it be a truce, or a fight?

Quote:Kelly takes 1 damage.
X takes 1 damage.

The six remaining darklings, not as fully-gone as most darklings, seem scared enough of you to listen. Do you trust them, or send them packing, or kill them? It’s your choice.

You have five days to post. No word count limit. Should you choose to ally with the Darklings, they will be able to lead you to the base where the portal to Nebula Space awaits.
