As the figure approached, details emerged, no longer shrouded by the glare of the mid-day sun reflecting off the smooth white sand.
It was short - a little under a meter in height - sleek and squat, with no noticeable hips, or shoulders for that matter - just a short black tube with a stark white belly. Its stubby legs and orange feet were tiny in proportion to its body, and they moved quickly, seemingly out of time with its progress as it advanced across the dunes. A sued, red leather vest hung loosely from its body, matching its eyes, and a crown of yellow feather fronds ringed its brow.
The man and the woman both stared as the penguin waddled into their bar. Even for the Omniverse, this was a little weird. Several awkward moments passed in silence.
The penguin raised a flipper and worried at its side for a moment, sticking its bright red beak through the armhole of its little vest. Apparently satisfied, it straightened up and cleared its throat.
"So," It said, the words emerging in a three-pack-a-day croak. "Not that I'm presumin' or anything, but are you gonna offer me a drink or what?"
