A Birthday Party for Molly
#21
It was time. It all came down to this.

Gildarts angled the scope of his gun at Molly, she was in his crosshairs, inches from his line of fire. He was hidden behind a tree and a large green bristled bush.. His steel finger loitered over the trigger. Slowly… Slowly… Annnndddd…..

SQUIIIIIRRRRRRRRR!

A line of midnight blue liquid departed from the squirtgun and landed right on Molly’s pristinely white shirt. He had gotten the first hit and raised his hands in the air in victory, giving away his own location. The ten year old saw this as the time to strike, he was a big target, hard to miss. It all came down to this.

WOOOSH!

Molly’s stream of purple dyed water plastered across his shirtless torso and stained his white bandages with violet lavender hues. His freshly changed white shorts were colored with it too. He looked down and it looked like he’d wet his pants with purple goo, the duo burst out laughing.

“Wow it looks like you peed out an alien!” Molly giggled.

“Oh yeah? Looks like you uh…” Gildarts struggled, he didn’t tend to tease kids, “Your nose ran and…”

“Gildarts give up,” she giggled and rolled her eyes, finding him to be dopey and cute at the same time.

“What? Me?! NEVER!” he burst and picked his gun back up. But it was too late.

A white poodle came up from behind and soaked both Gildarts and Molly with a water balloon that smulched them with bright yellow. Molly’s mixed with Gil’s to make green and Gil’s didn’t really mix on his biceps. The color just caked on his gleaming tan skin.

Squirting, squeezing, splashing, skittering. This was the mother of all wars, and most likely, the most brutal and ruthless Gildarts had ever experienced. Now it was time for revenge. They turned their squirt-rifles on the enemy and overpowered her. She was howling with laughter and agony as when they were done she was a spattered swirl of beautiful violet and deep blue. They both grinned and high fived, then Gildarts offered the pooch up, since she’d keeled over laughing.

“Let’s unite and get the others together,” Gildarts rallied his troops. They stood together in a line, a poodle and a girl, united by a dad-like guy who was telling them how they were to become victors. “Today is the day that we fight, we fight for honor, we fight to defeat our enemies. And most of all, we fight to win and splatter our colors all over the enemy so that they can know that we are the ones who are getting extra cake. WHO IS WITH ME!?”

“I AM!” Molly shouted.

“ME TOO!” Pupperoo howled.

Gildarts nodded and saluted them, “Now men, go out there and make me proud.”

And they dared to cross into no-man’s-land, with just a rifle, and each other by their side.

Cana and Cassandra rushed the scene, but the moment had passed, and Gildarts and Molly had both gone to get cleaned up, staining the towels drying them and freeing their hair of the rainbow of colors. Cana looked around, she was sure she’d sensed him in this corner of the town.

“I think he’s been here,” Cana’s eyes narrowed.

“What do your magic cards say?” Cassandra said sarcastically under the thick veil of her black widow-like hat.

“Tch, hey, why don’t we ask her?” Cana said as she spotted a possibly valuable witness.

“The rainbow dog? It’s not like can talk or anything, you’d be better off asking that post-” Cassandra stopped and her jaw fell to the ground as her mage friend actually had considered asking the pet.

“Well, dog-whispering worked,” Cana said proudly, her hands on her hips as her shoulders looked high in victory, “Apparently there’s this young girl’s birthday, her name is Molly, Gildarts and she were just here about five seconds ago but they went to get cleaned up. I wonder what party activity they’ll do next… The poodle said she wasn’t sure, but she was going to the new burger place.”

“Haha, well I’ll tell you I know what I’m doing next,” Cassandra picked up the squirt-gun Gil had used and splashed Cana with the dyed color. “Hey, would you look at that, the color brings out your eyes!”

“Cassandra this is serious!” Cana protested and got a squirt to her chest. A challenge had been posed and the mage reciprocated with a daring smile crossing her cheeks.

“Fine, but you’ll see who the real winner is in all of this. I’ll make your black outfit YELLOW AND PURPLE COMBINED! WAHAHA!” Cana faked an evil laugh and chased after the vampire with two freshly loaded squirt-guns.

All was fair in love and war.
