Battle of the Determined (Undyne vs. Flowey)
#6
For a while, both Undyne and Flowey just stood facing each other, catching their breath. Flowey retracted the damaged vines and produced new, intact ones and Undyne did the same with the spears she dual-wielded. Though the injuries that they both had taken heavily cut their combat efficiency restoring their stamina would allow them to fight a bit longer.

“How is it that you speak of… of people that I know and using names that I recognize, yet your version of the events is so different from mine?” Undyne finally asked.

“You don’t know the truth…” Flowey replied, gritting his teeth. “You haven’t seen Chara. She’s HERE. She’s in the Omniverse!”

“I told you before, she’s dead! Chara has died long ago!”

“I have no reason to lie to you. She’s alive. Why do you refuse to believe anything I say?”

“You ask that after you tricked us all? You used Papyrus to lure us all to Asgore’s throne room and tried to kill Frisk! Why would I believe a single word from your mouth knowing that?”

Flowey’s eyes darted around the battlefield as he noticed something Undyne didn’t, but finding nothing he turned his attention back to her. “I can’t convince you in any way, can I?”

“No. I’ll knock you down today… and if you try killing more humans, I’ll be back.” She raised her spears and bent her legs. “En guarde!” Then she jumped.

Flowey responded to her leap with his new vines. The first, Undyne blocked with her spears. The second she deflected with the shaft of one of the two, and it nearly missed her. A thorn cut into her side however, leaving a cut below her right arm. Then she was on him… and fell to the ground without attacking. Flowey hastily took his distance from her and observed, but Undyne, dropped to her knees, did not attack. Her spears vanished and cracks began to spread over her body, originating from the injuries.

“You… with just this attack…” Undyne mumbled, looking at Flowey. One of the cracks reached her face, and pieces of her chin turned to dust that fell to the ground.

“It looks like your SOUL is at its limit”, said Flowey. “Your body may not be very injured but your SOUL has taken too many hits.” He retracted his vines. The fight was over.

“Damnit… what are you…” She tried to get up, but the cracks on her body spreaded further even faster as a result of the tiniest movement. She could not even conjure a spear any longer. “How could I lose… so easily…?”

Behind a corner near where they were fighting, the human figure and the blob that were observing the battle shifted. “Get ready to go in, Kumu… Flowey can’t get away. But wait… not yet. I want to see what Undyne is really made of. Is she going to do it?” The blob responded with just a big grin.

Flowey turned away; ready to burrow into the ground. What a pity this was. Undyne’s SOUL was strong. One of the strongest of all monsters… but now it was going to shatter, he could not extract it. He would have to leave her to die here.

“… no. This fight… is not over…”

The flower’s face showed surprise as that voice spoke from behind him. Undyne’s voice. “Your SOUL is about to break in half, Undyne”, he said without turning to her. “I thought you’re a proud knight. Take your death like one.”

“Heh… every bit of my body feels like it’s about to crumble. Your attacks… they drove me to my limit… but…” As her teeth turned to dust and it dripped from her lips, she reached up with a hand that was missing two fingers. “… I cannot allow my SOUL to shatter yet.” Her lips curled into a toothless smile which grew even scarier as her right eye’s sclera blackened. Didn’t all the humans in anime do that? Deliver big speeches as they died, only to rise up again, while yelling a big wham line? Now it was her turn to do that... “I can’t let you rampage any longer… if I die now, humans… will die. Good humans, humans like Frisk… you’ll kill them. I cannot allow for that.”

A bead of sweat dripped from Flowey’s forehead over his petal as he listened. He turned to face Undyne again, paralyzed as he saw the horrifying grin on her face. “Y-you…”

“I… will stop you. Here and NOW!” Undyne yelled while tearing off her eye-patch. Her body reformed, the injuries accumulated throughout the fight visible for only a second before a brutal-looking armour suit appeared over it, with a giant red heart on the chest. Just then Flowey broke through his shock and screamed wordlessly as he raised both his vines up, then brought them down on her. The thorns did not meet the skin of her head though, but clashed against solid steel. The reformed Undyne, protecting herself with her newest toy, a sword twice her own size, laughed. “You’re gonna have to try a little harder than that”, she said before swinging it in an arc over her head. Flowey narrowly kept the vines from being severed by retracting them.

“What have you done!” he yelled as he crept backwards, away from her. Undyne did not reply, she held her sword – or rather, the grossly oversized beam of steel that she called such – with both hands, aimed at Flowey, then began to walk towards him. Her teeth too had reformed, and their grin drove a shiver down the flower’s metaphorical spine.

“Don’t! Look, I won’t hunt humans anymore, I promise…” Flowey offered, but Undyne offered no reply. The time for talk was over. He could reason with her no longer.
