A New Avatar Arrives
#28
Chakravartin grinned as the massive creature took shape. Majestic, he agreed.

Aang smiled proudly, "Appa! Good to see you buddy!" the Avatar walked up to the creature's head without even the slighest tinge of fear, and hugged it just above its nose, burying his face in the soft white fur. The creature let out a groan that could probably have been heard for miles, snuffling a bit, before opening its huge mouth.

Lysandra took a sharp step back, resuming her chanting of "Teeth. Big teeth. Why so many teeth?"

It licked Aang, the huge tongue lifting him up off the ground, and letting him drop again, covered in saliva, though by his grin, it seemed the man didn't even notice.

"Chakra, Lysandra, this is Appa. My Sky Bison."

"There's no way it can fly." Lysandra said quietly, "It- It doesn't even have wings!"

Chakravartin looked almost confused by her. "Since when does a sufficiently powerful being need wings to fly? I used to fly, before I came to the Omniverse, in fact, I never touched the ground. And never, have I had wings." He approached Appa, who quieted as he came closer, letting out a warning snort of hot air from its nostrils, and if Chakravartin hadn't been so dense for his size, would have had him falling over.

Aang watched Appa's reaction. The Bison was more intelligent than the Lemur, Chakravartin could tell, but that also meant less connection with instinct. Appa was obviously wary around him- he could feel something was wrong with him, that he was dangerous, but the creature's own intelligence stopped him from instantly attacking. After all, Chakravartin was physically only a child, and wasn't making any aggressive move on anything.

"He flies through Chi movement, doesn't he?" Chakravartin asked, "He's too dense to rely on a purely physical flight mechanism. Even some kind of internal hydrogen sack wouldn't lift him too far."

Aang smiled, "In way- Sky Bison are natural airbenders, it's said the first air nomads learned how to air bend by observing and understanding the Sky Bison's movements. And all bending comes from their chi- in a way, Bison are even greater airbenders than humans. Not even I can fly without a glider. Not really. You could?"

"Before, yes." Chakravartin smiled, "I had utter control of my Chi, and my own body. Before- I could make every drop of blood in my body fly like the Palace Hands I created. Whether separate or together. Free-flying was my default state of being."
