As they walked into the town, thoughts raced through Darren's mind, trying to imagine why the woman had worn such worthless jewelry. Perhaps it was for an enchantment, as, at least in Darren's home world, the magic was within the band, not the gem. But then, why had she used fake gems rather than simply a featureless band? Perhaps it was simply for appearances, to make the ring look more valuable than it was. Whatever the reason, the gems could surely be sold for something, especially to a gullible traveler with too much gold in their pockets and not enough brains in their head. Immediately, Darren began to head towards a tavern, hoping to pawn off the gems. As soon as he opened the door, he could tell this was not a very well managed inn. Dirt was all over the ground, and bugs crawled on nearly everything, the innkeeper apparently not paying much attention to the condition of his inn. Darren quickly walked in, sitting down at a table on which a traveler wearing fine clothing and a thick cloak, who seemed as though he was trying his hardest not to touch the table. The traveler looked at him, confused, but didn't say anything, apparently intimidated by Darren. Darren set down the gems on the table, indicating that he wanted to trade. The traveler looked flustered for a few seconds, before setting down a bag of coins on the table. Darren simply nodded his head, walking away as he took the bag of coins, glad his wordless exchange had worked.
