The Hunt Begins (Dark Data)
#53
Celestia found the interior of the courthouse to be surprisingly clean and respectable looking, much like the exterior.  And there had even been a 'court' of sorts established!  Although, it was not so much a true trial as an excuse to have the primes put to death.  Still, she had to wonder if she had pegged their adversaries wrong.  Here was a sign of a more organized culture than the mad violence she had seen up until now.  Could they be negotiated with?  Might there be, or have been, another way?

No, Celestia concluded after a considering what was said to the group, and shook her head.  The facts were accurate, for the most part, but there was no true consideration behind them.  Of course the primes would have to be destroyed, as they had approached the courthouse, which was a nexus or staging area for the creatures.  The official, legal trappings were just that: a theme of sorts, to the defences of this region and their leader.  Celestia said nothing in response to the so-called judgement, finding no need to attempt banter with what she saw as an automated response.

The ensuing fight she payed much more attention to.  Celestia let her allies make the first moves.  Even if she was willing to lead the charge, her allies were more suited to that rapid, 'shock and awe' style of combat than she was.  While they began their frontal assault, Celestia hung back so that she could play to her own strengths, of observation and careful timing.  For the most part anyways, she briefly provided a distraction for Revan, but beyond that she guessed her own attacks would have little effect if she used them thoughtlessly.  The others may find success, but she was still too weak to find success that way.  She took to the air again, to get a better view of the battle overall.

From her vantage point, Celestia did notice something.  While the Judge was doing an impressive job of blocking or avoiding the primes' attacks, it was not entirely effortless.  There was a moment's preparation before an obstacle appeared, or he blinked away.  “It's not speed!”  Celestia called out, in sudden realization.  “He's anticipating our attacks!”  And the best way to deal with that, would be to divide his attention.  Celestia flew past, angling to attack from behind-

Her path was interrupted by a large pillar of lightning, suddenly bursting from the ground.  She tried to veer away, but could only do so much with so little time, and energy arced into her side and shoulder before she was clear of the pillar.  Dazed, she tumbled to the ground, and though she quickly remembered that she was in combat and regained her wits.

The opportunity was lost, but Celestia had made it to her desired position.  She struggled to the air again, and began looking for another opportunity.
