This is Terrible
#2
Darren walked into a general goods store, having tied up his horse outside. He walked to the counter, fumbling around his belt for a pouch in which he kept his gold. He pulled out several gold coins, looking around. On the wall behind the counter there was a rack full of vegetables and fruits, including carrots, apples, leeks, and cabbages.
"Just a second!" came a voice from a back room. Darren looked around the room, eyeing everything, when he saw... a golden ornament, in the shape of a bear. It was small, no bigger than a small mouse, but looked solid, and would likely sell for much. He tapped his shoulder, and a rat came out of his clothing, sitting on his shoulder. Suddenly, the shopkeeper walked back out from the back room, a plump man with grey, balding hair and glasses.
"What can I get for ya?" he asked, with a friendly voice. Darren thought for a second, before saying,
"15 carrots, please."
"You got it!" The shopkeeper bent down, grabbing several carrots.
"Fetch, Lucius," Darren whispered to his rat, pointing at the golden bear ornament. The rat quickly jumped down, hopping onto the table and grabbing the ornament.
"Will that be it?"
"No, I'd also like 5 apples."

"Preparing for a trip?" the shopkeeper asked, but didn't wait for an answer, quickly turning around and grabbing the apples, putting them in a bag. As he did, Lucius hopped back onto Darren's hand, climbing through his sleeve and hiding the ornament in a pocket on the inside of his armour.
"That'll be all," Darren said, setting several coins down on the table as soon as the shopkeeper turned around. He grabbed the food he had gotten, and turned back around, heading back out into the market.

Several hours later, Darren began to get back on his horse, having loaded the horse up with supplies for the journey: 15 carrots, 5 apples, 6 loaves of bread, 10 salted steaks, 5 bottles of water, and 10 hardtack biscuits. He set off, racing with his horse out of the city, into the wilderness.
