Apparently the medieval ancestor of my last name is Fletcher.
Medieval names are highly dependent on the country of origin, but the general rule of thumb for English names is that they simply took your job and made it your last name. Smith, Miller, etc. They also liked to use "-son" a lot. Anderson, for example, is a last name derived from a dude who was the son of Ander.
