A Cloud in the Nexus
#1
It had been raining that day. He'd remembered the sensation of wet clothes as he entered Midgar. Yet, when he stepped over the threshold, he did not find himself where he'd wanted to end up. It was dark and, on top of that, he was now dry. Unable to speak the blonde frantically looked around, scanning the scene for any speck of light that might be in the area.

Quote:My name is Omni. This is not the world you know. This is the Omniverse. You interest me, so I have made you part of it. The Omniverse is a place that reflects the wishes of those who are part of it. But! There are rules. I will explain them only once, so listen carefully.

The child-like voice seemed to come from everywhere, yet Cloud felt as if he needed to turn around. A white figure, a stark contrast to the darkness that surrounded him, stood before him. The figure smiled as he raised his hands as an orb of coalescing colours and lights forming in them as he did so. The being, self-named Omni, then dropped the strange orb into Cloud's hands. It felt warm for a second, before breaking down and absorbing itself into his body.

“Mako?” Cloud thought to himself as he felt a slight tingle throughout his entire body.

Quote:This is Omnilium. It's what ties the Omniverse together. Without it, you are nothing. With it, anything you desire can be yours. But you will need more than this. If you desire it enough, you will find it. You will find that using it comes naturally. Just think of what you desire most.

You will not be alone in the Omniverse. There are others. Of course, they, too desire Omnilium. Do not fear death. For as long as you interest me, you will be reborn.

That's all you need to know right now. You'll figure out the rest soon enough. I'll be watching, and waiting.

The figure spoke quickly, leaving no room for Cloud to speak, not that he could even if he wanted to. But Omni had somehow answered his biggest question, even if the answer was somewhat vague for his liking. As the figure disappeared, the black void around him seemed to follow suit. All of a sudden he found himself sitting by a fountain. He could feel his buster sword on his back, and hear the trickle of the water as it dropped into the bottom of the fountain.

What the hell is the Omniverse? He blurted out, surprising himself with the sound of his own words. Cloud stood, feeling the weight of his weapon at his back as he leaned over the pool of water that sat in the fountain. He didn't look any different than he had before. Cloud removed his gauntlets and dipped his hands into the fountain and splashed some water on his face. He had hoped to wake himself up from a very odd dream, but it hadn't worked. He was really here. The twenty-one-year-old shrugged and turned around, noting strange structures on the horizon.

'I wonder if there's any money here...' the former SOLDIER thought to himself, 'If there is, people will probably need a mercenary, or a bodyguard. I could probably make a decent amount if I can find someone.' the blonde finished his thoughts as he began making his way towards one of the oddities that seemed to sit on the horizon.

The trip wasn't short. From the fountain, they didn't seem too far, but that was all just an illusion. The pure whiteness of whatever it was that made up the flat, seemingly endless, landscape of the nexus had deceived cloud. What he thought would be a leisurely stroll had turned into a 2 hour long walk that had sort of pissed him off.

'Well I'm here now. No point in complaining.' Cloud spoke frustratedly, trying to calm himself down. Cloud took a deep breath and then examined the archway that he had arrived at.

'Palm trees?' Cloud questioned as if he was talking to someone. The palm trees bent toward each other, arcing and crossing over one another, forming a sort of passageway. Cloud examined the gate for a moment, weighing up any possible risks, before shrugging.

'What could possible be worse than this bland place?' Cloud asked himself as he stepped through the portal.
