Putting out the call
#41
If it hadn’t been patently obvious before, it now became completely apparent to Somerled that in this world, technology had completely eclipsed magic. Pursing his lips, the monster listened on intently as Doctor Regal presented the device he had manufactured to aid in their endeavors. His small, wristwatch-esque devices apparently held the ability to track down this “dark power,” allowed even flesh and blood beings to harness the power of the chips, and could even alter the wearer’s body to be more resilient. The power of strengthened senses, grimoires, and augmentation all in a single, futuristic package. This was a city to be feared.

The spirit of storms lifted up out of his chair, rising to his feet after the doctor had finished up his explanations, keeping one ear on the ramblings of the other occupants. He wouldn’t deny that there was a sense to what some of them were saying, especially the one who had radioed in. Working in groups was likely the best bet. However, he really couldn’t trust most of the people in this room as far as he could throw them. So many of them just reeked of deception.

“What do you think?” Somerled mumbled, half to himself as he stepped up to where the Liberator Aides had been laid out.

“Whatever you’re thinking, probably,” came a half-assed response from his own mouth, as Sonny spoke through him.

“Gee thanks for the help,” he said under his breath, picking up one of the devices and eyeing it suspiciously.

“You’re welcome.” And with that, his other half fell silent once again. The spirit sighed, slipping the aide onto his left arm and scanning the room once again. As unfortunate as it was, he couldn’t change the fact that teaming up was probably necessary. So far he was zero for two in ‘surviving while lone wolfing’ and one for one in ‘surviving with comrades.’ The best option would be to ally with someone, and thus he had wanted the sun spirit’s opinion on who seemed the best, or rather who was probably the least likely to backstab him because they got a taste of power. Since Sonny wasn’t willing to oblige him, he was on his own. That didn’t mean he didn’t have someone in mind, however. His eyes fell upon the human that had stayed relaxed around all the angered fuckery. His comments had shown that, at the very least, he was level-headed, which put him many steps ahead of everyone else. Mustering up as friendly of a smile as he could manage, he strode across the room.

“Hello,” he came to a stop just in front of Jim Raynor, greeting him with a faux-cheerfulness. “You sound much more trustworthy than everyone else here, so how about we work together?” Somerled grimaced internally at his own greeting, maintaining a light grin. Perhaps he should have made his other half do this part.
