A Complicated Business
#40
The mania of the past few hours coupled with the raging storm left little time for introspection. However, if only to keep himself focused on something other than the pain, Captain America thought deeply about where he planned to go next. He left his arms and legs on autopilot, the thick muscles straining to keep him moving, while he focused his mind on his immediate surroundings. Many new things caught his interest, namely Frisk. Admittedly, her rather flirty introductory statement had taken the hero aback, but as he continued to push forward, doing his best to shield her from the whipping winds and rising rapids, she seemed the image of an innocent child.

Despite Cap's premonition to stand between the girl and the storm, the combination of her stubbornly forward movement and his reliance on her "soul's" tracking abilities, he kept just behind her. The pelting rain fell mainly on his back as they moved with the storm, the winds slamming against him like a battering ram. Each gust renewed his aches, his damaged armor doing next to nothing to keep out the freezing rain and wind. But still, that statement as to her "soul"... it certainly had piqued Cap's interest. As he always reminded himself when he encountered something unexpected in the Omniverse, Steve had dealt with similar and even stranger things back on Earth-616. Nonetheless, this dimension continued to surprise him.

The girl stopped, propping herself up on the wreckage of a carriage, likely smashed apart within the writhing waves of what she pointed to. With a grave tone, Frisk indicated a rushing current of water that had enveloped the street ahead. It flowed like a hurricane, smashing barrels and other random items against the buildings it rushed past.

"Hellboy's somewhere in there."

Cap winced in pain at the prospect of pressing into the rapids. Thankfully, a familiar voice caught Frisk's attention, leading them away from the watery onslaught.

"Hey," Boomed the familiar voice of the Half-Demon. "Anyone out there!? Uhh... Avengers Assembly? Whatwasit... Ah whatever, Hello!?"

Frisk smiled broadly and skipped as best she could with her injured leg towards the voice. Both the girl and the hero turned a corner to see Hellboy pulling himself free of the river, shouting and cursing alternatively. Cap approached and held out his hand to help the struggling half-demon out of the mud and stones.

"Language, soldier," Cap said facetiously. "You're in the presence of a lady."

Hellboy looked up to see the Avenger smirking and quickly took his hand in his, using the massive Hand of Doom to propel himself out of the mire.

"Damn-. I mean, darn it's good to see you two." Hellboy leaned against a pile of debris, catching his breath.

"Good to see you too, Hellboy." Cap turned to Frisk. "Now then, you said your soul can lead us to Vision?"

Frisk nodded.

"Then lead the way."
