There was some sort of commotion from the front. Some screaming, some shouting, and a little bit of loud pleading.
Anyone curious as to what was going on didn’t have to wait very long. It was mere seconds before Lord Zedd entered the room occupied by Doctor Regal and those he had called to aid him. Trailing beside him was a robotic secretary, desperately trying to acquire his attention for simple identification and information sharing. Zedd had no interest in fraternizing with the robotic construct, though. He was here for business, and he would not be seconded to anyone’s lackey.
“Sir, I just need to document…” the secretary trailed off, looking over to Doctor Regal with the most apologetic look it could muster.
“Quit pestering me, you insufferable pile of scrap metal!” Zedd shouted at the machine, just the same as he had been since the moment he entered the complex. “I’m here to work, not listen to your inane ramblings and requests.”
The robot seemed to finally concede that it wasn’t going to have a normal conversation with the skinless being that had marched though, so it tried to come up with a new approach to deal with him. Zedd was already over the machine, at this point. He was surveying the room before him, and more importantly its occupants. The deposed dark lord had been requested to help Doctor Regal deal with ‘strange lifeforms’ and these occupants sure fit the bill. His metal coated fingers clenched tightly around his staff as he decided he had all the information he needed to proceed.
The secretary decided it was simply done with Zedd, and tried to pass him off by gesturing to Doctor Regal through the small crowd of primes. “Doctor Regal is right over there, and he can-”
“We will discuss payment later!” Lord Zedd interrupted the droid again. He raised his voice as he loudly addressed the room, stepping away from his mechanical stalker at the same time. “Listen, now, strange lifeforms! You have picked the wrong facility to harmlessly loiter! Your time in the Omniverse has come to an end, but I promise you the raw Omnilium I extract from your corpses will go on to change this world in remarkable ways. Now, if there are no volunteers, I will simply start with the most absurd of you and work my way…”
“Sir!!!” the robot screamed as it jumped infront of Zedd, showing about as much panic as it was capable of. “They are your allies for this! Regal has recruited them as well as you!”
Zedd paused. His head tilted, and he looked over the crowd once more. “Oh.”
The secretary desperately pointed through the crowd at her creator and supervisor. “That’s Doctor Regal, and he can answer all of your questions.”
Zedd nodded slowly. That made a lot more sense. He didn’t apologize to the others, seeing no need to. Things hadn’t actually come to blows, though several of them appeared quite ready and just as capable. Probably was a good thing they were on the same side, after all. Instead of dealing with that situation, he just looked straight at the good doctor.
“Then what am I doing here?”
