The Tangled Green FAQ (updated 2-21-2017)
Q: “What does the area around the three gates look like?“
A: The gate from the Nexus opens up into a small clearing. About twenty meters from the gate, the jungle takes over and rarely gives up its stranglehold on the landscape. Over in the east, there’s a gate that connects to Camelot. This is also a small clearing, and there was apparently a stronger Kingdom presence here years ago. On the other side of the verse is the gate to the Ashen Steppes. Oddly enough, this is hottest region in the Tangled Green.
Q: “So what’s the climate/environment like?“
A: Lots of green. In all seriousness, the Tangled Green is an enormous mashup of forest types. The interior of the verse is your standard forest that you’d find in any old temperate region like Europe or the Continental United States. Once you’ve traveled a few days, these ‘temperate’ forests give way to an increasingly tropical rainforest. The western half of the Tangled Green is a pure rain forest ripped straight from Brazil with plenty of precipitation, whereas the eastern regions of the Green are cooler boreal forest where rainfall is less common.
Q: “Native wildlife?“
A: Varies based on which ‘zone’ of the Tangled Green you find yourself in, but if you can imagine, you’re going to find what you’d expect to find in a temperature forest, boreal forest, or tropical rainforest. I won’t list things off ad nausea, but you can always google if you don’t know what type of animals live in rain forests.
Q: “Monstrous wildlife?“
A: Sure, you’ll find plenty of odd things out there in the Tangled Green. Man-eating plants, sentient plants, who knows. The Animus River and its various tributaries is home to some bizarre aquatic creatures as well, and who knows what’s dwelling out there in the unknown.
Q: “Do forest fires and other natural disasters happen?“
A: Of course. Fires are a natural part of nutrient cycling, so they happen. Most inhabitants of the Green let this type of stuff run its course, because they know it’s part of nature. With few exceptions, those who live in the Greens tend to be respectful of nature.
Q: “So there are orcs and elves here… are they the same as the ones in Camelot?“
A: Yes and no. You’re bound to find more ‘feral’ orcs out here in the Green. Orks have mostly been driven from Camelot, and they often find one another out here in the jungles, create a WAAAGH, and rampage until someone stops them. The elves that remain in Camelot tend to be those closet to humans in terms of culture, whereas the elves that live under Tyrande (a night-elf) at Yggdrasil tend to be just the opposite.
Q: “What’s the political climate like in this strange, plant-filled verse?“
A: For the most part, the ninjas and their village are isolationist. They’ve dealt with their own unique issues since their creation several years ago. Yggdrasil is likewise rather isolationistic. While Tyrande has contacts with Aragorn and will occasionally send out diplomats, most of this is just window dressing without any real substance. The core of Yggdrasil society is still unwilling to trust working too closely with the Kingdom. Outside of those two older settlements, you have Ambrosia, a faction town (head to the OVD for more information on Ambrosia), and you have an upstart tribe of orcs under Garrosh Hellscream, who seems hell-bent (lol) on upsetting the status quo.
Q: “…is this place any different than what it used to be like?”
A: Compared to the Moors and the Dunes, the Tangled Green has been relatively unchanged since society came to the Omniverse. You have little cities out there, but there hasn’t been the widespread development that ravaged the Dunes. Likewise, the Blight was ended before it could ravage the entire verse, leaving only a few square miles of dead forest in its wake. The Kingdom used to maintain some posts out here, along with a few barracks. Those were abandoned at the height of the war, and Tyrande’s rise to power ensure that they remained gone.
