First venture in a new land
#36
Celestia could feel the faint thrum of magic within the ruins.  Her abilities were a pale shadow compared to what they were before her arrival, but she hadn't lost them entirely.  So, while the sensations were faint, she could vaguely tell that there was a magical trap near the entrance.  In all likelihood, she avoided the trap herself by intuitively and almost unintentionally avoiding stepping anywhere that would trigger it.  And with Revan keeping step with Celestia as she entered the ruins it was Veritas, the person at the back of the group, ended up being the victim of the trap.

That Celestia had been able to avoid the trap didn't mean she was fully prepared for the consequences.  While she was expecting some sort of response, she was hoping there would be more chances to see threats coming and prepare for them.  Prior to her arrival she could have immediately started working on the problem, but in her current state she wasn't sure what could be done.  For a moment she wished she'd been the one afflicted by the curse, as she would have a sense how to deal with it, but she brushed the thought aside.  She seemed to be the only one of the group who had much experience with magic, and if the curse were to incapacitate her then they might have no one left who could address the situation.

While Celestia was still considering, Revan starting trying to attack the image.  It was a primitive approach to the problem, and one Celestia wouldn't expect to bear much fruit, but it was enough to snap Celestia out of her thoughts.  While she couldn't remove the curse, she could help the patient.  She'd need some time to focus, but they had no actual adversaries at the moment, and Revan appeared willing to play guardian or distraction should anything suddenly appear.

“Give me a few moments,” she said, announcing to both Veritas and Revan that she needed time, though with different reasons for informing each.  Then, tuned out the world around her, and concentrated.  A couple minutes later, she'd conjured a small satchel full of an herb.  “I can't safely do anything about the curse, but I can at least help with the pain.”  Gripping it in her magic, Celestia levitated the satchel into easy reaching distance of Veritas.  “Chew on these.  And let me know if and when you feel up to moving again.”

They wouldn't be able to move anywhere, at least until Veritas was fit to walk again, so Celestia returned to considering the curse itself.  The image said nothing about how the curse might be removed, or the the offender might be absolved of whatever his wrong was, but it did give some insight into how the curse would manifest.  Apparently it was meant to be a somewhat ironic demise, enticing the afflicted individual with power and then turning the their own anger against them.  It suggested a means to at least keep the curse at bay, but as it was Celestia did not know if should could sufficiently prepare or convince Veritas himself...
