Home was where the heart was, if a human idiom found on the Dataverse was to be believed. But where was home for the dark king? Did Sombra even possess a place at any time that he could have considered his home? He didn't know. Sombra concentrated, attempting to dredge up as much of his dark power as he possibly could. What he needed were soldiers that could do his bidding. Yet what form should they take? If what he was concerned about was true, likely Twilight was going to call out for her mentor. Her friends being here were bad enough to humiliate him. Granted he'd only brought them so that he could use Twilight in an attempt to off Omni. Her friends were notoriously good at getting rid of bad guys, but why hadn't they done so to Omni already? A frown formed on the face of King Sombra.
How could he be defeated by six mares? Sure they were the bearers of harmony, but there had to be more to it than that. Why were they able to reignite the Crystal Heart? What power could have possibly enabled them to do so and do so properly? Honesty, Loyalty, Laughter, Generosity, Kindness, Magic were the names of the Elements possessed by Twilight and her friends. Yet the elements weren't here, and the facsimiles he'd made for those secondary copies of Twilight and her friends were just that, facsimiles that could do him no harm. Most likely his creation was going to prove unable to put Omni in a world of hurt, but it had been worth a shot. Still perhaps he needed to pursue other options, making himself able to wield more than dark magic.
Nine hours of stomping on the path towards the Fountain later, King Sombra had arrived. Watching the fountain shift again, the dark king sighed. Why were his troubles growing worse? Now not only did he need to find a way to protect his home from intruders as the visit of a hero had shown, but he also needed to boobytrap the waters around his island. Future visits from the Empire not withstanding, Sombra had one individual in all of the Omniverse that he didn't want to encounter in the future, namely Dead Pool. At least until he could melt the individual's face off and that was going to take some work on his part. What should he make next for himself? Dark Crystalline Bash and Retaliatory Shield were good and all, but he needed something more. There had to be more to him than simple parlor tricks that he could pull like a magician out of his hat. Ideas struck him like a ton of bricks all the sudden. Pegasi could manipulate the weather, and earth ponies could control the Earth beneath them. If that was the case then why couldn't King Sombra do someething similar with his magic? Sure it might be difficult, but the best things in life were often challenging to do anyway.
"It is time I made myself stronger. No longer can I hide behind just my skills with my scythe, or my normal magic. No, if I am to continue existing here I must push past the boundaries of magic my home possessed. I must achieve a whole new level of power."
