The beginning of the End (Artefact Battle) (PvP)
#19
Erik has blacked out for a moment, but everything was coming back into focus. What had happened? The smell of charred flesh brought the memories flooding back. Oh, yes. The sword of Kusanagi. Sasuke's sword, which had been used against Erik. A flicker of rage ignited itself in Erik. The sword that has been unrightfully taken, and waa now being used against its proper owners!

The psychic tried to stand up, but the jarring pain brought him to his knees. Taking a deep breath, Erik lifted himself up once again, this time using Mageslayer to prop himself up. Hesitantly looking down, the psychic inspected the wound on his chest.

A large slash was carved in his torso, carving a slightly curved line which would have cleaved the psychic's body clean in half if the blow had gone deep enough. Gingerly touching it, Erik saw that the lightning had cauterised the blow, stopping the psychic from bleeding out altogether. The psychic tried to take a step forward, but stumbled again, barely keeping upright.

"Just let yourself fall." A voice in his head said. "It'll be easy."

"No!" Erik roared in return, accidentally projecting the thought telepathically into the battlefield. Everyone who could spare a second turned towards the psychic, before returning to their opponents.

"While I live, I will never let an ally down. Nor will I allow such insolence, such TREASON to go unpunished." Erik rose to his feet. The pain was great, but Erik's drive was greater. The psychic's fury was quite literally tangible, those nearby able to feel it telepathically radiating down into the core of their being.

Striding forward, admittedly with no small amount of difficulty, Erik locked eyes with Red Hood who looked genuinely surprised to see the psychic still standing. Red Hood was promptly distracted by his opponents, but Erik kept coming.

Erik ignored the witch fighting the blue haired boy. While normally Erik would love a chance to prove Mageslayer's title to be an apt one, he didn't have time for her. Plus, she was keeping the blue haired boy who insisted on defending Red Hood busy, so he couldn't complain.

Erik continued on, also ignoring the self proclaimed 'God' who flew right over his head. That was blatant heresy, stuff that would normally infuriate Erik. But if false Gods made Erik's blood boil, the sun currently burned in the psychic's veins. Ducking beneath the man's feet, and those ridiculous pants along with them, Erik powered on.

Finally reaching Red Hood, Erik raised Mageslayer to cut the man down before pausing. The vigilante had his back turned to Erik while he was occupied with the boy in red. As furious as he was, Erik wasn't about to attack a man with his back turned. The psychic patiently waited for Red Hood to fend off Dave, before tapping him on the shoulder.

Red Hood turned, an expression on his face that said 'What the hell are you doing?' The face turned to one of shock as Erik raised Mageslayer above his head, the charred scar across his chest forming into a gory imitation of a smile as Mageslayer gleamed wickedly in the constant light of the Nexus.

Red Hood reacted quickly, bringing a knife up just in time to deflect the blow, before narrowly intercepting another. Thor turned to help his friend before being caught off guard by Dave. Erik wasn't sure whether he should thank Dave, if Dave should be thanking him, or if Erik was going to end up cutting him down regardless of the help, but that was irrelevant right now. Such formalities could wait until after the brawl.

Erik and Red Hood traded blows with surprisingly even skill and speed, but Erik's injuries were taking an obvious toll on his performance. While before Erik could match Red Hood blow for blow, now the vigilante was able to block with relative ease, and even get in a hit of his own every now and then.

Deciding to try things a little more logically, Erik disengaged from Red Hood and violet mist poured from his cloak sleeves, with a little leaking through the chest wound. The mist flowed into his left hand and formed into a psi-blade.

Charging back at Red Hood, Erik swung Mageslayer overhead, which was easily blocked. Erik smirked internally as he as swung the blade upwards, as if he were attempting to slash under Red Hood's guard. The vigilante moved to block the weapon, and Erik's smirk transformed into a full grin as the blade passed through the knife.

Red Hood gasped as he attempted to pull away from the blade, but was unable to get out of the way and received a cut across his chest similar to the one he inflicted on Erik, although much thinner and less deep.

"This is the reward for those who would even consider treason against New Babylon." Erik said as he brought Mageslayer down on Red Hood in his moment of weakness, cutting into the vigilante's shoulder and then slicing down the side of his torso. As he did so, however, Erik's massive wound flared up with pain and the psychic fell to ground with a cry, a spasm rocking his body.

Erik lay panting on the ground, and as he pulled himself up, he wondered if Red Hood would offer the same courtesy of not attacking an opponent with their back turned. He wasn't hopeful.
