The beginning of the End (Artefact Battle) (PvP)
#13
Quote:Continued from here

Now, I’m no hothead, but sometimes you have to make people … pay attention.

I raise my voltage to its maximum. Test its limits. I honestly don’t remember what they are. Bands of blue spark outwards from my lightning body.

The most attentive seems to also be the focus of everyone’s attention – his red mask now turns to regard me for the first time. As though a greeting, he raises his gun level with my head and

Stop.

Mantra.

I see the bullet exit the gun, coming towards me.

As he pulls the trigger, I jerk my head sideways. The wind whistles past my earlobe.

Now that was a rude greeting.

“Hello to you too,” I say with a grin. I raise my hand and discharge electricity in his general direction. No need to be precise about it – these are greetings, and we have to feel each other out first. He jumps backwards, sparks jetting from his pistols. I know he’ll have felt that one in the fine nerves, in the tips of his fingers.

I raise my voice. “HELLO!” I bellow, and I make sure everybody hears. Lightning sparks out from me in every direction. Oh yes. That’s it. Something approaching closer to my true power. I can feel it. God! It lifts me off the ground! I laugh as pure power cascades out of me, rippling the waves of the fountain. Everyone had to have noticed that one.

“So,” I say, “What’s goin-”

“SHUT UP!” I hear a low growl to my right. I’m not so dumb as to think my little display didn’t attract anyone’s ire, but that’s the point. I have to teach these dogs who’s boss. I feel the psychic echo of the energy blast a moment before it connects, and I dodge out of the way, laughing. A crisscross of kunai, bullets, and even some kind of energy arrow let me know how well my greeting was taken. Brilliant. They’re paying attention.

I fly upwards. “Really? That was it?” I open my hands in mock challenge. It seems that none of them can fly! What a huge shame. I spin my staff over my head a few times, generating just enough current for a wee storm. This should do. Next thing, I throw it downwards, right into the middle of the fray. It splashes out, scattering the fighters. Beautiful. They’re looking up at me with such hate, and even throwing a few of their pathetic attacks, but with my speed and mantra it’s child’s play to dodge and fire from afar. How appropriate. I’ll just stay up here and-

Mantra.

A blade cuts up across my torso.

I swing out of the way as it cuts the air. One of them can fly! It’s the big, black-armoured fellow. As he spins to face me, his cloak bellows majestically in the wind. But he’s clearly not one for lengthy introductions. He’s coming straight for me with that blade again. Pissant.

I raise my staff and block. Even as I do, he adjusts his angle of attack to strike my weak spot. No slouch, this one. A worthy representative from the mortals to parley with their God.

“Apologies for making this so brief,” I say. “But I’m Enel. You can call me God, if you like. To whom do I owe the pleasure?”

“God? ... Don’t be absurd.” He shoots me a glare as cold as his voice. “Colonel.EXE. The pleasure is yours.”

There’s something off about him. Not just the name, but his voice is completely monotone, devoid of emotion. I strain, but I can’t hear his heartbeat. Stupid White Brat. Whatever he is, he’s not human. Maybe a shitty boss of this dream world.

Whatever. Trash is trash, and I don’t have to fight him up-close even if he can fly. “Heh!” I suddenly break out of close-quarters and fly backwards. I let my hands speak for me. The first lightning bolt elicits a satisfying grunt from my target as it explodes in his stupid face. The second and third are just for fun. I can’t help but laugh as I fly backwards. He’s circling around now: smart. He seems to understand he can’t out-fly me. The next thing will be …

Mantra.

His hand, now a gun, fires an energy-based blast at me.

… A ranged attack. So he’s the one that took the first shot at me earlier. I do so admire initiative! I twist and wheel in the air as he fires at me, responding with my own bolts of energy. To his credit, he’s a good shot. And now he’s backing away, dodging all my bolts in the meanwhile! As I turn to approach, I feel the psychic echo of one of his shots graze me. I move-

Mantra.

Explosion in my face!

Too many! It’s all I can do to catch it in my chest instead. Bastard! He’s not even stopping to appreciate the fact that he just hit God! He’s just firing more! Impudent little shit.

I roar, holding a cone of electricity against his firing radius as I close the distance. “Fine! We’ll have it out your way!” I say as I close in, staff withdrawn. His cannon quickly disappears, and in its place, the sword emits. He just barely spins to avoid my staff as it whips through the space his head just occupied.

Heh. So that’s his weakness. It takes him at least two seconds to switch between that sword and gun. As he closes in with the sword, I leap back backwards, letting loose another bolt in his stupid face.

“You’re clearly having trouble, so look,” I say, grinning. “I’m going to give you a chance.” I hold out my hand, indicating for him to stop. “I’m powering down. Let’s say … two thirds of the voltage. That should be enough for you to keep up, shouldn’t it?”

Honestly. I’m too kind.
